Claymore and Dagger Pt.2

"We've both been raisin' younger people all our lives. I think we'll be alright," Sam nodded.

“I thought about asking your sisters to stand up with me at the wedding. I know how much Heather means to you.” Fiona said as she leaned her head back to look into Sam’s warm gaze.

Lifting a hand to brush a strand of hair behind her ear, Sam smiled lightly. "It's up to you, love. Still got another wedding to go."

“Well, it’s up to you too. I’m not marrying myself.” Fiona said as Sam gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

Fiona kissed him back with a smile on her face, loving the relaxed Sam that he was being in that moment. He rarely showed her this side of himself and when he did, she enjoyed it for all it was worth.

As night fell, Owen gathered Sam, Fiona, and Will to his own home for a while before letting them head out. Suara had already given them a loving sendoff. On their way in the cart, Will was lost in thought pondering over the pot of ink he'd been given.

"You can save the ink for a while if you don't know what you want just yet." Fiona said as she saw Will considering his gift with a serious face. "And Suara would be happy to do it for you. She's done work on mine and she had done most of Sam's. She might even surprise you with something you didn't now you wanted."

Will didn't answer for a long moment, glancing up at Fiona. "... I have a few ideas. Ideas that'll take a long time and a lot more than just this... I'm just deciding where to start."

“Start small but make sure you tell a story that is near to your heart.” Fiona said, brushing her fingers through his slightly messy hair.

"I'm going to," Will promised quietly, tucking the ink pot away and turned his eyes to the path before them as Sam drove the cart. Eventually they arrived at the little cabin and Will helped take things inside before herding Fiona back to Sam.

"Go to the keep," Will urged. "It'd be dumb to stay the night separately."

"I'll get tired of the keep before long and have to come back here to get away." Fiona said as Will ushered her back to Sam. "Why are you so eager for me to go with him? I've only just gotten back to the cabin."

"You're gonna be a queen, aren't you? You'll live there. And I may or may not be doing something tomorrow and want the place to myself," Will smirked.

“You might be an adult in the tribe but you’re not an adult in my eyes. Whatever you are planning better not include anything illegal or with a young lady. Especially one with curly black hair.”

Will rolled his eyes. "You think I'd tell you if I was gonna do something stupid like that? No. I'm gonna have some friends over from work."

"That's not very fair to the girls we work with," Will challenged. "We just wanna get together for dinner and cards."

Sam had a mildly amused, small smile on his face. "He's no' plannin' anything, love. I can tell."

“If he does, I give you full permission to cart him down to the jail for a couple of nights.” Fiona glanced over at Sam as he assured her that he could tell Will was telling the truth.

"Tha's hardly a punishment fer a kid like Will." Sam chuckled. "I'll find somethin'. Probably leave it t'Ciaran."

Will could only roll his eyes, heading back toward the door. "Go be lovebirds or whatever it is you two do."

"We're old, Will. We spend most of our evenings doing boring things like talking about new clothing or coronations." Fiona said as Will retreated into the cabin and she looked at Sam with a small grin. "He reminds me just how young he is all the time."

"Yer no' tha' much older, love," Sam pressed a kiss to her cheek. "So... What're we going t'tell my side o' the family? Ma'll be ready t'kill me if Rho let it slip tha' we married spur o' the moment."

"He might just do it to get her attention off his cub and Naiya." Fiona said as she looked up at Sam. "You best be prepared."

Fiona kissed his cheek before she climbed back into the wagon, sitting next to Sam as he drove them back to the keep. It was quiet when they arrived, a normal night for the staff. In Julia's rooms, little Brogan was crying while she changed his diaper, giving Kate another night to get good sleep. The little prince was as stubborn as the day was long and it seemed that she had done something to personally offend him that evening.

"Little love, there is nothing that you can say that will change this situation." Julia murmured softly as she finished getting him situated. "You could learn a thing or two from your cousin."

She glanced over towards Dana as the little cub minded her own business, watching something off in the distance from her blanket that only she could see. She was an easy baby, one that didn't require much from either of her fathers.

The dark, undersized cub whimpered and growled as his grandmother tried to get him settled, as moody and opinionated as his mother had been as a baby. He'd already mastered Kate's signature dark glare. But he was finally distracted as the door opened and he immediately reached out for whoever it was to save him.

As Sam and Fiona stepped in, Sam couldn't help a smile at the scene. "She torturin' you, lad?" He asked, stepping forward to scoop up his desperate nephew.

Fiona chuckled at Sam's easy way with children. Little Brogan instantly curled against his uncle, growling in warning at anyone that tried to come and take him away. Julia let out a sigh as she looked up at her son and the little cub, shaking her head.

"He soiled his diaper and needed a change. He didn't like that one bit." Julia said as she glanced at Dana. "She, on the other hand, has been nothing but an angel for me. Her fathers have been having an evening to themselves."

Shifting the cub to his shoulder in one arm, Sam simply smiled. "Sounds like Ciaran an' Kate all over again." There was a sort of peace about Sam that evening, one that soothed little Brogan. Looking back to Fiona, Sam welcomed her to his side.
