"In front of me?" Sam asked. "It wouldn' bother me, love. But do what y'like." He kissed her cheek once more before sorting through his own letters. There had to be at least thirty, many in foreign languages and many marked with official seals.

"Because I hate crying in front of you. You always worry afterwards." Fiona said, looking at Sam with an eyebrow raised. "You can't deny it, Ghis."

"I worry about everything even when nothing's wrong," Sam corrected, glancing over a letter written with characters from somewhere in the far east. Something in the letter broke his dark mood, and Fiona saw him crack the tiniest of smiles.

Fiona sighed as she saw him crack the smallest of smiles over something that was inside of the letter that he had in his hands. She stood and stretched, kissing his cheek properly before she moved to get dressed. If he wanted to share with her what was inside of the letter, he would. She never asked unless the news were completely terrible.

"I'm going to see what is for breakfast. Then I suppose I should go find Dmitri. I had my day off training." She said, her tone weary as she laced up a fresh gown.

"Just don't go working yourself into the ground too much, lass. I want you t'be able t'take awake when I take you to Malmo." Sam offered her a smile then, letting her know he wasn't too troubled to forget he adored her, and he was looking forward to a chance to take her to a formal event and introduce her to people he adored.

Fiona turned to look at Sam as she finished lacing up her gown and chuckled softly. "I can't wait until you see the gown that I made for the event. I dare say that you might be speechless. Or I might find some other man in Malmo that will be speechless."

"I don' talk much as it is, so I'll be sure t' shut my mouth a bit more, aye?" Sam teased gently, his mood lifting at the thought of her all dressed up for a ball. He loved the wild fox in her, and the survivalist she could be in the outdoors. But he also knew she would absolutely floor most noble women in a fine gown.

"Maybe it'll be enough to have a ring slipped on my finger." She murmured, kissing his cheek one last time before she left the room to eat her breakfast. "Only if you're ready for that kind of commitment, of course."

"You'll just have to find out," Sam called after her. He would soon follow once he dressed properly and washed up.

Orla joined them for breakfast that morning, which meant that she had more than likely stayed the night. It seemed that she was growing close to her uncle and it made her smile to see how he doted on the woman that had stolen his heart. Rhett had gone all out on their breakfast, stacks of hotcakes and fish cooling on the table as he finished up the eggs and sausages as well.

"You're not feeding an army, Uncle Rhett." Fiona said as she kissed his cheek and helped herself to a glass of fresh juice.

Rhett simply shrugged, placing the last plates of food on the counter. Orla kept close to his side, easily ducking under his arms as needed as she was a fair bit shorter. She smiled to Fiona. "I think he's just in a good mood today. Rhett goes all-out when he's happy."

"I can only guess what's made him so happy." Fiona said with a laugh as she sat down at the table to wait for the rest of the family. "So, have the both of you made it official yet? I have to worry about my uncle's reputation, you know?"

"We're working on it. Rhett's friendly as they come, but he likes to keep to himself." Orla brushed past Rhett on her way to the table and he shook his head with a smile before settling beside her.

"I look forward to Orla's father hounding you about her," Oleg chuckled.

"Uka, I think Uncle Rhett would walk through fire for Orla." Fiona said with a smile, leaning over to kiss her grandfather's cheek. "Where's mormor this morning?"

"She decided to spend a morning alone with Yul," Oleg explained with a smile. "She and Yul have always had a relationship a little different from the rest of us. One that requires a little more time one-on-one."

"I think it's nice. She should spend as much time with her kits as she can. It doesn't matter if they are grown or not." She said as Sam and Owen appeared from their rooms, both dressed for the day.

Fiona smiled at the both of them, genuinely happy to see them both. She would have never thought that she would have smiled at the sight of her father in her younger days, but she adored him now. He had proven himself to be a person worth loving.

Owen emerged in the usual loose tunic and vest and trousers, but Sam was in uniform, telling Fiona he would probably be riding to the neighboring town to send off letters. He'd be back by the time she was done training.

Owen greeted Fiona with a kiss pressed to her cheek, settling in his usual chair. "What's on the agenda for today, little kit?"

"More training, I suppose." Fiona said as her father kissed her cheek and took a seat beside her. "Dmitri wants me to be able to transfer from dragon to dragon as quickly as I can. Invah is hesitant and Gaiann is completely game."

"Of course Invah's worried. You're her partner and her fledgling. While Gaiann cares for you just as much, he doesn't view you as quite so fragile despite the size difference."

"Neither would ever let me fall." Fiona said as Owen seemed to understand the situation in the same way that she did. "I feel like she's far too sensitive sometimes. Maybe I should switch over to Gaiann as my primary dragon."

"I think you should stick to Invah," Owen suggested. "She may be over-careful now, but it's because she doesn't know what you're capable of. Gaiann will help you prove yourself. But he is suited to different kind of Rider. That said, I'm also curious who your Sam will end up with."

"What?" Sam looked over with a raised eyebrow.

"You've ridden with Fiona. It won't be long before Dmitri and Xenia start hounding you too. You're stuck, my friend."

"Da, Sam isn't interested." Fiona said, glancing over at Sam as Owen teased him about riding with her already. "He doesn't enjoy the heights like I do. Which is alright. He has things that he enjoys that I don't and I have the same."

"I know he's afraid, and I wouldn't push him," Owen nodded, but then he leaned in to whisper against Fiona's ear, "But he asked me about it the other day... If being a Rider meant he'd work with you."

"Da." Fiona said, blushing as he leaned in to whisper against her ear that Sam had asked him about becoming a rider to simply spend more time with her. "It's not something that we've really talked that much about."

She glanced over at Sam as he helped himself to breakfast. She knew that he loved her beyond anything. She also knew that he hated heights and anything to do with them. Was facing a fear worth the price?

"As scared as he was, I think the rush got to him. He may have realized he enjoyed it," Owen encouraged before tucking into his own meal with a chuckle. Sam gave him a sidelong glance, knowing Owen was whispering about him.
