Circumcision....discuss?

TumbledLove said:
wow, I don't know how to provide facts to someone without common sense.

The circumference of the average penis is around 5-6 inches. and foreskin usually covers the entire end of the penis. (the head is about an inch tall). and the skin has to loop back down (a fold), so that's two inches. plus, the skin is stretchy and circumcisions are usually done about an inch or more down the shaft. If you've had geometry, you can do the math. I'd link to a math site, but they'd probably all be "pro-math", and you'd dismiss it.

dear mr common sense,

please explain to me in your inimitable common sense way how the size of an adult's foreskin is relevant to a discussion of circumcising an infant.

your friend,
hester

I realize it may take many years for the baby to grow up, but the end result is that 15 square inches (perfectly healthy, and normal) is missing.

In July [2002], a North Dakota court ruled that an adult male could sue the doctor who circumcised him even though the parents had consented and there was no "botch."

wow, I had no idea that lawsuits were actually happening / being allowed to happen. If Missouri allows this, then I'd definitely consider spending a few hundred (thousands) to go to court.

It's interesting that if a female's gentials are altered in any way whatsoever, then the person who performed the procedure can face up to 5 years in jail. Why do females get so much protection, but males don't? A double-standard if I ever saw one.

It hurts like hell to have it done as an adult.... I lived 35 years uncut and now 20 years cut.. I did it to keep down the chance of transferring yeast infections, etc. .... It was well worth the pain and expence and I would do it again if needed.. :nana: :nana:

By that reasoning, my very first trip to the barber cost me 22 feet of hair.

did it change your sexual enjoyment?

This is just one more thread that proves people simply don't know how to be happy with what they've got.

I am perfectly happy with what I have(cut) I just dont think forcing a painful, uneeded procedure on a child is something a loving parent should do.

Oh, if i had a baby boy, i don't think i'd have it done to him. I don't think i'd really have the right to make that sort of decision when i have no frame of reference. i once made a solemn promise to a guy i knew to never kick a guy in the balls unless i was in great danger, for that same reason. Without something to put it into a context i can really grasp, i can't make that choice.
i'm just amazed by how it seems to be human nature to whine about anything they can't change, instead of being happy with the good things and working around that which cannot be changed.

You know, I have to say that I respect you a whole lot more for this point of view.

I don't whine for myself, as much as I whine for all the babies that aren't being given a say in the matter. I accept that I'm missing a "little flap" of skin, or missing a "little off the top" or however else you want to say it. But I'm not happy about it. Otherwise, I'm basically glad that I have a healthy penis. and I take advantage of it as much as I can. :)

since I had the last word, I guess that means everyone agrees with me. ;)

that.. or everyone thinks I'm a belligerent nutjob. :D

PErsonally I am uncircumcised. In fact I don't know anybody in real life who is circumcised - not that I talk about these things with my friends or relatives.

and... are you ok with that? or do you plan to get cut in the future?

Um... why the hell would I want to cut it off? I mean, I know of no reason why to cut it off nor have I heard anyone recommend me to do so.

Haven't you heard that foreskins cause cancer and other health problems? Don't you ever wish that your parents would have had it cut off when you were a baby?

I have never heard such things. I have never looked at my foreskin as something that should be cut off. Maybe it's a whole lot more prevalent in the US, I don't know.

ok, well, best of luck to you.. (with cancer and stuff). and good luck finding a girl that likes foreskin, and won't run screaming from the room when she sees it.

From what I hear, girls run away from circumcised cocks. I'm really confused with this whole thing.
