I was lucky & the cast never itched...
don't be scratching it open

I just put a hot water bottle on it or gently rub around it - the itching soon stops

the cast guy said I got lucky because I was so used to living in the heat that I didn't sweat enough to make the cast itch...

just becareful once you're free... no spliting your seams playing
