Choosing a vibrator

It's about time I buy a vibrator. I've read up on them, and came up with a few criteria. I want it to be waterproof for fun in the bath, and to use AA or larger batteries (AAA and button battereis are evil). The noise level is a bit of a concern as well. I'm currently male (I hope to change soon...), so I will be using it mainly for penile and prostate stimulation.

I've used a plug-in back massager before, but the vibrations just don't seem intense enough. Are battery powered models any better?

I'm thinking about this one, but I'm not sure if it will give a nice "full" feeling.

Any suggestions? I'd like to keep the cost around $20.

I think the waterproof G might be a good choice in terms of power and prostate stim, BUT that hard plastic may not be so fun. The other very important issue is design...that one doesn't have a flared base, so you may be asking for trouble, especially for solo use. I'd suggest looking for a curved butt plug, or something else that's specifically (and well- many of them aren't) designed for anal use. You can get a lot more for your money somewhere like eBay or Amazon.com usually. This one's out of stock at Amazon, but it's more along the lines of what I'm thinking of.

As for the electric massagers, I've found they can vary wildly, but electric usually outpowers batteries, hands down. The key is to look for quality products...the "gold standard" in this category is the Wahl and the Hitachi Magic Wand (those are links to the best deals I've found, BTW). We have both, and the Wahl is less intense (or maybe it's just a different sensation) but great for head, clit, balls, external anal, and you can buy attachments for penetration. It's very quiet and well-made. The Hitachi is EXTREMELY powerful, and just about the best invention ever in our opinion: it's amazing for clit, vulva, g-spot, anal, prostate (it actually made my hubby an anal convert), for use with fingers/hands, and is also a great body massager. It's around $50 with two easily-cleaned, fantastic attachments and shipping, but they last forever and are such pleasureable multi-taskers, it's well worth it, especially when many toys cost about the same and are junk and/or only have a few uses. The downsides for you are it's not waterproof or very quiet though we muffle it quite well with the blankets and it IS a back massager, so there's your cover story right there!

At any rate, give us a review when you try whatever you buy! :D

I'd get a magic wand if it weren't for my mediocre experience with a different plug-in vibrator. I get a mildly pleasant feeling, but not nearly enough to bring me over the edge alone. I have no idea if it was me or just the crappy vibe, and I'm not sure I want to risk $50.

The length of the attachments also concerns me. They don't seem like they'd be long enough. Granted I have no experience, but only 3.5 inches?

Plus there is no mess with waterproof toys (bath time is so much more fun...) I'd prefer some level of diversity with a waterproof model, instead of anal only. The one I linked to is fairly safe for anal with its tapered base, and I am willing to risk it. A jelly model might feel nicer, but I read they tend to dampen vibrations, and I have no idea where to find one for a good price.

I'd like one of every type, but I just don't have the money...

It sounds like you've made a decision then. :) Jelly is okay, but it's not recommended for use without a condom for anal because it's just about impossible to clean and there's some evidence the pthalates it contains have negative health impacts.

I don't want you to take the following as a defense or argument because that's not my intention at all. But like you said, you don't have a ton of experience or money to waste on things that don't work, so I'd just like to pass on information and help you benefit from my research and experience. It may not be relevant to you now, but I bet it'll come in handy when you have the money in the future. :rose:

Read the reviews...the biggest complaint is that it's TOO powerful. I was hesitant too -- we've had some really disappointing purchases in the past, and I need A LOT of stimulation (2 C batteries with a focused tip is a stretch) -- but the more I researched (and I did at least 3 months worth, reading everything I could find), the more confident in it's power and orgasm-inducing capabilities. It's basically the most powerful vibe on the market, and there's good reason it's been the top seller for decades.

I have back and neck problems, and have tried many, many massagers for strictly that purpose. I couldn't agree more with you, temp...tons of them are absolute junk. I have yet to find a Conair massager that does anything, and I've felt the power of all of these toys in the Seattle Babeland store. Some are fine, but others are ridiculously weak and terribly constructed. So, I don't trust massagers as a category, but there are some really good ones. It's like clothes, beauty products, or anything else...you generally can't categorically discount everything based on a bad experience, and probably wouldn't when you only hear good things about a product. :)
The length of the attachments also concerns me. They don't seem like they'd be long enough. Granted I have no experience, but only 3.5 inches?
Your prostate is 1 to 2 inches in, and the hitachi attachments are actually four inches. My hubby just gets my g-spot with his middle fingers, but the g-spot attachment has room to spare. Even if your prostate is twice as far in as other men, you'd be fine; one of the reasons being that the vibration is strong enough that it carries (hubby is stimulated when I'm using the g-spot attachment clitorally during anal), and you only need a light touch for stimulation. They're removeable, can be sterilized and can be used on their own. The attachments make the toy for us.

This is one of the very, very few things I believe is so great all around and will bring so much pleasure that I'd buy it from a friend who bought one on my recommendation and didn't care for it for some reason. It's not for everybody (e.g. those who don't like a lot of stimulation, only want a toy to do one thing, or want one really cutesy toy), but about 95% of the reviews sing its praises, so I can't forsee anyone ever taking me up on that offer. If they do, well, I'll get double the pleasure, double the fun. :nana: :D

Go to a good website that sells toys (Literotica's is good and they ship fast) and pick out a couple and buy them. Make sure that they are water proof because clean up is easier. Most toys both vibs and dongs are cheep so buy a few and experiment with what you like best. Because of advice here on Lit my wife and I ended up with 2 vibrators and 3 dildos and they are all fun and all different.
Good Luck and ENJOY.
