Why Xi Jinping Doesn’t Trust His Own Military

The Real Meaning of China’s Disappearing Generals

Over the last two months, a series of senior Chinese generals have disappeared from public view, including the defense minister and the leadership of the force responsible for China’s intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). These disappearances are surprising given the perception that Chinese President Xi Jinping dominates the People’s Liberation Army and his ruthless commitment to rooting out malfeasance earlier in his tenure. In fact, that such incidents have not only continued but also affected some of the most sensitive parts of the PLA showcases the limits of Xi’s power.

Xi and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) more broadly have long granted the PLA considerable autonomy to run its own affairs. Allowing the PLA a high degree of independence helps ensure its political compliance with Xi and the party, yet with no civilian checks and balances, it also creates the conditions for malfeasance and poor accountability to fester. Although the details of the recent purges are still murky, they reflect Xi’s lack of confidence in some of his most senior officers.

Such doubts about the competence of his people and the equipment they have apparently mismanaged could weigh on Xi’s calculations of the risks of initiating a conflict—making him less certain that a decision to use force would achieve the intended results. As long as Xi doubts the stories his generals are telling him about their own proficiency, his mistrust in his own military will likely serve as a deterrent to war.

Looks like the corruption of the CCP, in general, has manifested itself in the Chinese Army as well. Many have doubted its credibility for years including me. If they build their Army like they do their infrastructure it could fall apart as well.

Well, we know that by 2070 it will lose close to half of its population.

Superpower Denied: China Isn’t Having Babies Anymore

A nation and its attendant economy are only as strong and great as its population base. A key factor undergirding that population is a nation’s total fertility rate. And China is one of the leading nations in the fertility collapse. In fact, it has long been speculated that China is slated “to get old before it gets rich.”

China’s population could halve within the next 45 years, new study warns

  • Researchers say previous estimates may have severely underestimated the pace of demographic decline
  • Census data says the birth rate was 1.3 children for each woman last year – well below the level needed to stop the population from falling

Are the worlds 5 biggest carmakers; the industry which powered American wealth creation for 100 years. Staggering along in 6th and 7th places are Ford and GM. GM the company that went broke during the GFC and was bailed out by the socialist policies of the GOP pumping in $ Billions of taxpayers money. Then the GOP applied a 27% subsidy by slapping a 25% increase in import duties on Chinese cars. The Democrats have continued the GOP's and Trump's socialist support policy by recently approving a $9 Billion to Ford, which their CEO already admits they probably cannot re-pay.

But all is not lost, the CEO of GM pays herself $32m per annum, more than all of the CEO's of the top 5 more successful companies put together. And Farley of Ford ain't too far behind. I do not doubt that China is corrupt but what is this, fair pay or daylight robbery?

VW is also struggling and in some respects the Europeans are in even worse shape. Volvo and MG are doing well tho'. Hmm, but aren't they Chinese companies now. '

If the US wants to rebuild they had better get a move on and I doubt the management of these legacy companies can do it. Musk/Tesla is quickly becoming the Saviour of the US Auto industry. Is that scary or inspiring?

The required rate to maintain population is 2.1 live births per female. The current overall rate for the USA is 1.64 and the difference from China is substantially due to the fact that Latin migrants and black women have more babies than white women in the USA. It would therefore seem that if you wish to promote a future of American supremacy the price may be opening up to more migrants and welcoming the future of a brown and black America.

China's demographics are actually worse that initially reported. It seems that they over-counted their population by a substantial factor. As it stands their half-way mark is closer to 2050, or sooner.

Their entire economy is an import-export based economy. They import raw materials, energy, and food then they export finished goods of varying quality. Over the past 20 years their labor costs have increased 14 fold while their productivity has only increase by a factor of 4. That's one of the reasons that the low value, high labor content, industries like textiles are moving out. Those companies that were engaged in consumer electronics are leaving as well, albeit for different reasons.

They've over-built their housing sector by 100% or more, consequently that portion of the economy is collapsing as well.

The CCP is gong to be blamed for this disaster and Xi is all to aware of that. So that brings up my question again, "How far will he go to retain power?"
