I've started a few threads because of threads that Chicklet starts, this being no exception.

I think I'm one of those who intimidates people, I could add a big list of Lit. regulars who I also think intimidate.

Add yourself to the list as an intimidator and what you think is intimidating about yourself.

Are you authoratarian instead of authoratative?

Are you venomous when you should be venerable?

Are you a twat when you should be a pussy?

Me, I come across as a know-it-all. Opinionated. Too clever by half.

The thing is, I know little bits about lots of things. I have opinions without background. I can construct proper, high sounding sentences and do.

Just realized Gauche was asking questions, got carried away by his brilliant tag line.

I try not to be intimidating, authoritarian or a twat/pussy on the AH. I can be in RL but only with rude or evil people (same on the threads but I think so far only with Pure who asks for it; he's rude and fey but not evil). When I draw on my literary or other cultural experience I try particularly not to sound snobby or know-it-all because I am very aware always of how much I do not know. Mostly I want to let others know of the delights I've experienced.

In RL I still intimidate men. It's a curse, so I'm happy it does not seem to happen here. The only time I purposely intimidate children are when it's a matter of safety. I wish I could intimidate animals as I don't care for domestic pets, etc.

Gauche, I remarked on your Lit. persona on Chicklet's thread (the origin of this one you say), but I'll add that you do not come across as a know-it-all or even as performing like one, just very opinionated and purposeful about it. Unlike a couple AH posters (nameless nearly) you elicit responses and disagreement and give a wide berth to those who don't get you. You're one of the few real gentlemen on Lit.

My comments were meant to tease and most certainly not to embarrass. Please accept my apologies for making light of a serious situation.

I would say that most of the people in AH are supportive in nature. We support with laughter, we support with tears and we support with humor. I would never want you to think that I am anything other than supportive.

About intimidation: I've been told that I sometimes come across as a bit of a insensitive clod, throwing in offhand comments that unintentionally manage to step on someomne toes. It'll probably happen here too, soomer of later. Bear with me. I (almost) never mean anything by it. Also, i tend to dig deep into my irony-bag, and it might hard to tell wether I'm joking or am being serious from time to time.

Offline however, I probably couldn't even intimidate Piglet.
That says alot coming from a 6.5 feet, 230 pound guy...

Before reading MG's thread on Avuncularity, I wouldn't have had a clue how to respond to Gauche's questions. Now, it seems, that I semi-qualify for safe and encouraging. Cool.

I have been told that I intimidate people, but I haven't a clue why that would be. I try to be sweet most of the time and have found that the most eloquent way to dis someone is to give them the "cut direct" and ignore them.

I like the folks here and try to let them know it. My ditziness may cause me to come across as less connected than I really am. Thanks for the fun, all.
