How come there are so many politicians in Chicago and Illinois who end up going to prison to serve very long sentences after being convicted of serious crimes?

I can't count how many Chicago mayors and Illinois governors have ended up going to the big house for corruption/bribery/misconduct.

Well, one seems to have fallen through the cracks and ended up in the white house instead ofthe big house where he belongs.

5 governors in modern times have been convicted. And only one Governor in the 21st Century has been convicted. There have been no mayors convicted and while Blogo was Mayor at one point he wan't holding office at the time of his conviction.
