Cheers for MA Supreme Court, Boo to Bush and Romney

WE've got to keep in mind that victories like the Mass. decision are not the end of anything, but just a beginning. Politicians like Bush and Romney are going to continue to try to appeal to their core voters, and we will not will every battle. But we shouldn't get discouraged, the more they scream, the more progress we know we have made.

Yea.. that is crap... Stupid Republicans.... oddly enough my opion of some of the Democratic candidates has fallen in the last day, according to Headline News (which shows these little blips on the bottom of the screen the following Democratic candidates are against gay marriage:

AGAINST:

Howard Dean (in favor of civil unions)
John Kerry (in favor of civil unions)
Joseph Leiberman (in favor of civil unions)
John Edwards (support "partner" benefits)
Richard Gephardt (support "partner" benefits, his daughter is gay)
Wesley Clark (wishy washy... support? civil unions?)

IN FAVOR:

Al Sharpton
Dennis Kucinich
Carol Moesley

(of course, all the underdogs)

SOME QUOTES:

Mr. Kerry, who voted against the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996, a year in which he was up for re-election, remarked that "marriage is viewed as a union between men and women." When the remark drew hisses, he interjected, "That is a historical, cultural view." When the crowd hissed again, Mr. Kerry simply shrugged and said, "That's my opinion."

"That's like asking me, `Do I support black marriage or white marriage,' " Mr. Sharpton said, to thunderous applause, when the moderator, Sam Donaldson of ABC News, asked if he supported gay marriage.

Kucinich said the federal government should allow civil marriage between same-sex couples, not just civil unions.
"Separate is not equal," he said. "The right to marry is a civil right that should not be denied."

"As a society we should be looking for ways to bring us together and as someone who supports the legal rights of all Americans regardless of sexual orientation, I appreciate today's decision," said Wesley Clark. "As president, I would support giving gays and lesbians the legal rights that married couples get."

I think most of them are walking the line just to get elected. Most of them reject it based on the extra legal rights that are afforded under the Massachusettes decisions going beyond rights to visitation, inheritance, and health benefits. They all say they believe in equal rights for gays, but the marriage thing goes too far legally? Whatever. I don't see th big deal. So some people get extra tax breaks like straight married couples... big deal!

Mit is an evil bastard...he cut the jobs of a ton of teachers and social workers making class sizes about 10 kids too big (any teacher will understand that 10 extra kids can make a huge difference) and putting kids like the one who threatened to kill himself today outside the system because they're not "abused enough" (he has a long story, but should've been under dss services months ago...both myself, my supervisor teacher and my principal have been BEGGING his family for therapy...he was abused by his mom and has been in 3 homes-all family-since oct and by friday is filthy). Yes, there are always never enough teachers or social workers but he has made it harder than it needs to be.

I was so pissed that I was too young to vote last year. Not only did the Cape get huge budget cuts, which hit my high school, but the public higher education was battered, and that's where I'm going now! Luckily though, recently they passed something in the House that is giving us $38 million. It's better than nothing.

They always attack the education system. And they complain that we're not learning anything. Go figure.
