Americans looking for cheap travel should look at England or Italy.

The Pound is at a near historic low against the USD, and the Euro’s cheap too.

Italy has a new right wing government, which will make half of you feel good.

The other half will love the UK’s diversity and smooth-running socially progressive government services.

Which would You pick?

With inflation outpacing wages and the administration having no clue as to how change this, I don't think that a lot of Americans are inclined towards travel for anything other than basic family events. Just a feeling IMHO.

Italy since there's a few cities you can visit while there aside from Rome. There's Florence and Venice for the usual tourist traps but just going to these said three Italian cities you can't go wrong.

Enjoy and be safe!

Wales is better, nicer beaches, blue clear seas. Quite popular with Italians too.

I’ve always wanted to go to Italy, and I’ve been to England many times.

I love English culture and humor. The pub culture, the football culture. And I find that most British bands are second to none.

But I’ve never been to Italy, and always wanted to go. So Italy.

I've been to both. They seem to me very much different places, so it isn't a matter of "which is better" (though I could give an opinion and offend a lot of people), but why you are going. Every time I was in either place, I was in the Navy - either a port call or being sent there for some other sort of duty. Aside from local busses and commuter trains, my travel in the UK was by rental car and in Italy was by train.

While my last time to be in either place was decades ago, I remember the train system in Italy to work well for touristy stuff. See the Vatican, then go see Florence, then go see something else. I wouldn't recommend planning a lot of time in Naples, but Pompei and Mt Vesuvias are worth a visit. England has a much different sort of history and culture, so as I said, it depends on what you're looking for.

The Italian food in Italy is generally pretty good, except for the pizza in Naples. It's sort of like cardboard with tomato paste and olive oil spread over it. It might get better in other parts of Italy, but why take the chance.

While there are rude people everywhere (except maybe Singapore) - if things haven't changed much you'll find friendly helpful people in both countries. Many of them even speak English - though in parts of England they'll be harder to understand.

You're more likely to be ripped off (either cheated or robbed) in Italy, but more likely to be injured at a "football" (soccer) match in England. You'll be safer at a Rugby match, where some random group of people might invite you to drink beer with them.

Go to Switzerland. The food is better. The people are nicer and they drive on the right side of the road. :)

Tough choice...being half Italian but born in England, I can see both pros and cons.

Depending where you visit in England, you'll have brilliant variety of food, activities and mixed culture that would keep you busy. However prices can be very expensive, including transport too.

Italy would be cheaper for transport and more likely to have affordable meal options. It goes without saying the culture has always been strong!

Although the person above has mentioned Switzerland which I must say is also a brilliant option too... beautiful country and amazing food, but probably pricier than both England and Italy

Come to the UK, please. Bring food
Among UK attractions are the hollowed out former industrial power that invented trains but no one can afford to use them, invented national health but people die waiting on stretchers parked outside emergency rooms, and museums in London full of stuff we stole from other nations. It's true we have a good sense of humour because, fuck me, you need it living here.
