Charlie Kirk's legacy will be his attempting another bad-faith argument at the moment he was shot

Sure we’re on the same page. Perhaps it’s impossible to separate the before and after as they’re inextricably linked. Perhaps his death catalyzed his horrid rhetoric into a more widespread action
All the more reason why 'real Americans' should reject his ideology. This isn't a call for silencing, cancelling or stopping his college tours to continue on - there is nothing in the CK's Bible that supports the rhetoric of Jesus. True Christians should reject his distortions of their savior. For the rest of us, our freakin courts should do their duty and reject this creep of religion into political policy overseeing the general public. Our Appeals Courts seem to be up to the task, unfortunately, we have something else over them supposedly calling itself a Supreme Court.

They were indeed unknown in the US until just a few weeks before their trip to New York. Their first US single released under their own name was so high priority with the label that they misspelled their name, Beattles, on the record. But just as the extremely harsh winter of 1962-63 is credited with making them stars at home, the JFK assassination set the stage in the US. In both cases, people were depressed and looking for something to cheer them up - and they found it.

But yes, to call them "nothing until they reached America" is absurd.

Again, how dare you?!!!
If anything, I, more than anyone here, embrace the absurd! How the hell does one keep their sanity on the PB otherwise I do not know!

LOL. As an aside, screw the OP! I am more than happy to take this thread far, far away from anything CK into arguing the history of The Beatles any day and all the time!

I’m not religious but I studied religion in college. Specifically the New Testament (synoptic gospels), Christian ethics, and the evolution of American Christianity as the country formed and expanded. And I still follow a lot of biblical scholarship purely out of interest.

In no way — NONE — does MAGA/modern conservative Christianity resemble any semblance of the Gospels/Acts. It’s the most farcical example of present day ‘Republicanism’

Forgive me but there is no way on earth that I am telling my mother The Beates owe it all to Lee Harvey Oswald and a 'cold snap'....

You should post more.
I see your likes to members. There's always a need for more hands on deck and a voice of sanity.

"Owe it all" is an exaggeration, but what does she think triggered it?

I love real dialogue, even with folks I disagree with. The problem is that I take my words seriously and try to consider others’ opinions. In all honesty I haven’t found that to be reciprocated by many who believe differently

Sooooooo you DON'T call her mum is what you're sayin?
I have many names for her and have used...most of them.... :) :)

And of course I love her dearly.

But now you mention it I think i do tend to name her 'mother' to people who have never met her. As in -

"Now, before we get there.... about my mother..."

It's 5am. I should probably go.
But... I will say that this is the kind of political back and forth that I so much enjoy. I have it with trusted friends, with my partner and family, and I enjoyed here tonight. I've had fun. I am way more stimulated in thought, unfortunately, with folks on my side disagreeing and challenging my views than I do by folks on the other side. Sorry, magats, there has to be some foundation of truth to stand on first in order to move the needle of discourse. I do not see that happening with people who are disingenuous to begin with or downright liars.

Thanks Leah, Curious, YDB, DMall, and even you too Anomolady. G'nite.

I was typing all that and you wrote this! AWESOME!

I do not know what the origins of her faith were I'm afraid, but I will ask her.

One of her sisters still has her Beatles fan club membership card. It is card number 00006. She got in early.

Plus, magats, your idea of a good time politically is always to kick and berate the weakest among us.

I will come back tomorrow, but things will be different. Snails(1984whatever) will be posting his LibsofTik trash, RG and rebel will do their dogwhistling racism, and SaintAss will try to derail the conversation with useless dead ending crap. I will get mad and I will curse. It's a given, but tonight, for a brief moment - I enjoyed myself. Have a great day tomorrow curious, and Leah and YD - I won't soon forget this.

Thank you.
Me too.

Well said. Today's Republican embrace of the Divine surrogate 'Golden Calf" (in the human form of Donald J. Trump) is more the antithesis of the Gospel of Jesus Christ..

Kirk’s legacy in death is far more remarkable than his legacy in life. I I don’t mean to diminish his impact. I loathed the guy but it’s clear that he was a adept tactician when it came to engagement, and he certainly moved the needle.

But the reactions and political maneuvering, attempting to capitalize on his death, have been more far-reaching and extreme than his lifetime of work
I'm sorry... where are you getting the idea that his death is more impactful on his legacy? I'm not reading the right news articles about how his legacy is living larger than he was, I suppose.

The felon and family haven't mentioned him since they flew out to mourn his passing, probably, because he called for releasing the Epstein files.

No one has suggested putting his head on a US coin, have they? Would someone have nominated him for a Nobel?

His wife said she would step up and carry on his life's mission. She may follow the same model of college challenges for students and beat them down with Kirk-style logic to earn an income. As a Christian and someone who forgave her husband's killer, it doesn't seem she has that same desire to ridicule others in public. I see that as moving her into a new spiritual role rather than into religiously coated political rhetoric.

But as for being more remarkable after death than in life, that is not what is coming through the news.

Charlie was a political hack who was murdered by a gun-nut at the exact same time he was defending the rights of anyone to get a gun.

TPUSA would have to find another resentful young male MAGAt if they want to continue to be a propaganda arm for gun-nuts on college campuses.

@AnomalyLady

Perhaps one might be this:

I don't find this to be a man of reason or an argument in good faith when it tramples on the separation of governance between national, state, and local levels. Sure, DC is under Fed control as a unique city without representation in the US legal structure. Kirk would be ecstatic over rolling into Portland, Chicago, LA, or any other city with these exact words. That's not American by anyone's standards except for those who would trample on the freedoms of others for their own self-satisfaction.

It's one example. As was mentioned, you only had to Google it to find one.

Kirk's Debates is a short article about one religious news source's feelings about how he targeted his audience.
I read the whole article you posted, thank you.

Well, LeahWill, if that even is your name at all - you're lucky that I like you!
Otherwise I would say you're not proper Queen's British at all!
How dare you call your mum mother and not mum?!!!
I am so sorry, I had not spotted this at the time.
I was probably blinded by my 'rage' at the assertion that Lee Harvey Oswald was behind The Beatles success. :)

No, Leah is not my real name, I keep that out of the public messaging. Obvs :)
I was having a Leah Williamson moment when I created my profile. Should point out my interest in football games begins and ends there...

Finally, not sure how to tell you this... but the Queen died. We are King's British now.
I know. No-one here can believe it yet either. We have had to change all the postage stamps and the song... everything.
