Remy Winter, 25

Remy could hear the phone ring even before she opened the door to her apartment. She was still slightly drunk after a whole night of partying. It was very early in the morning and Remy had no idea who would call this early. All her friends knew she worked as a bartender, and that she wasn't a morning person.

With a sigh she dropped her keys in a cup that was placed on a small table. Closing the front door behind her she made her way to the phone that was attached to the wall in the hallway.

"Hey." She mumbled to the person on the other side of the line.

"About time lazy ass."

It was her sister Jamie. Her very annoying and very straight sister. Remy suppressed a groan. She so wasn't up for whatever shenanigans Jamie had in mind. Every time Jamie called she wanted something from Remy. Usually something that Remy would regret giving.

"What." Remy muttered. She was so tempted to just hang up on the sister she adored but at the same time found so irritating.

"Just to give you a heads up." Jamie said cheerfully ignoring Remy's irritation.

"What?." Remy rubbed her eyes as she tried to focus on what Jamie was saying. She realised that she was repeating herself.

"Lauren are moving to LA." There was a slight pause. "I told her that she could live with you."

Remy was dumbfoundead. She had known Lauren when they grew up. She was Jamie's best friend. She was alright but Remy and her sister had moved in different circles, so Remy and Lauren had never been close.

"Fuck you. You know how i live." Remy muttered. Having someone around 24/7 did not sound like a good idea.

"You live very well and you know that. I know for a fact that you have a guest room." Jamie say, sounding very smug. "Anyway. She will be there this evening."

Remy cursed her sister and Lauren, immediately feeling a little guilty. Nothing was really Laurens fault.

"I'm working tonight." Remy said in a final try to avoid the unavoidable.

"Not a problem. She can come to the bar and pick up the keys to the apartment."

Knowing that she was defeated Remy agreed and hang up on her sister.

"This will suck." She muttered as she went to the kitchen to get something to drink.

Lauren comes to LA

The screen on her mobile phone changed its luster from her favorite wallpaper to a small white slate peppered with text. "Blue Lace Bar" was written on the first line followed by the address when Jaime dictated Remy's workplace. Lauren hears the bus driver say "Ma'am, this is where you get off. The bar is across the street over there," as he points to Lauren's destination.

She steps off the city bus pulling a medium sized suitcase on wheels. New to LA, she looks around like a tourist with a touch of carelessness that causes her to bump into a pedestrian. He continues on, she turns towards the bar then to the stop light at the intersection. The green light appears in its dark frame, she sees a small mob of pedestrians cross the street and follows them. One more crossing and she is on the same block as the Blue Lace. A short walk and she stops to look at the time making sure she doesn't arrive early. It's 6:30 PM and she remembers Jaime tell her Remy's shift begins at 6 PM.

Lauren pulls one of the double doors and enters but not fast enough. Her suitcase is caught by the door. Forced to stop, she turns to push the door clear of the trapped suitcase and pulls it inward. Over the next few steps she walks backwards from the door and manages to turn only to stop before bumping into Remy. Lauren smiles then says to Remy with measured exhilaration "Hey you, it's been a long time."

Remy had been working at The Blue Lace bar for two years. The customers was of a varied breed, but the bar attracted many lesbians. That suited Remy very well. She flirted and had a healthy sex life because of the bar. She did not have to go home alone when her shift was over, unless it was by choice.

She was so used to living alone that the thought of having someone living with her made her nervous. Especially as it was someone she hadn't met in years. She remembered Lauren as a nice girl. They had never been friends. None of Jamie's friends had really been the kind of girls that hang around with Remy and her friends. Remy had been the wild daughter while Jamie had been the good one. Their respective friends reflected on that. That Remy in an early age realised that she was gay only furthered the gap.

The more she thought of Lauren coming to LA, the more nervous she became. She kept herself busy and refilled the bar with liquor. She had only been working for an half hour when she heard a voice behind her.

"Hey you, it's been a long time."

Remy turn around and take in Lauren's appearance. She looked good, very good.

"I didn't expect you so early." Remy say as she look down at Lauren's suitcase.

She felt rather stupid and rude. Trying to make up for that she smile and lean forward to place a kiss on Lauren's cheek.

"Good to see you Lauren." She say. Remy ain't sure if she means it or not.

"Want something to drink? On the house of course."

Lauren smiles at Remy and from the tingles bursting from the kiss, one of friendship if you can call it that.

So much went through Lauren's mind on the way to LA. She felt she did all the right things, earned good grades, went to a prestigious school, started a career most would envy and one day all that came down like a house of cards when the company she worked for went out of business. Her home town was small compared to LA, like a drop is to a bucket of water. Wanting to succeed in life, she tore herself from her roots and moved to the big city where everyone is a stranger except Remy. If it wasn't for Remy Lauren would have gone elsewhere to stay with a college friend but she decided on LA.

Lauren understands Remy is her key to success and decides to tell her about her plans but not now. This evening is for meeting Remy and settling in her place. It's Friday so the weekend will be used to settle in with Remy and calls for interviews will be made on Monday.

"I'm famished Remy but I'd like a glass of Sprite please before going to your place," Lauren says "and I need to rest from the long trip," she added.

She looks are Remy then turns away to pan her eyes around the dimly lit bar not realizing that the clientele is all female.

"Of course." Remy say. She's not ignorant to the looks from some of the females that frequent the bar. They most certainly wonder who Lauren is. The place is known as a gay hangout and here's some fresh meat to sink your teeth in.

Remy shrug as she make her way to behind the bar. She take a bottle of sprite from the cooler.

"Who's that?" She hear behind her. The jealousy in the voice is poorly disguised. With a sigh Remy turn her head toward the stunningly sexy blond woman.

"Just a friend Whit." She say. Remy don't even try to hide her irritation. She and Whitney Parker had a fling a few weeks ago. Since then Whitney had let Remy and every one else know, that she was hoping for something more. A fact that she had not let Remy see until after they had fucked a few times. Remy had thought that Whitney was like her. Out to have fun.

Remy pour the sprite in a tall glass and turn to face Whitney.

"Not that it is your business but she's just a friend."

Ignoring whatever Whitney will say next she walk around the bar and go back to Lauren. She can feel the daggers from Whitney's stare against her back.

"Here's your soda." She say as she hand Lauren the glass with sprite. She dig in the pockets of her jeans and pull up a key. "And the spare key to the apartment." She offer it to Lauren.
