We got a few idiots that would like to see BST (=DST) ;all the year round'. Absolute buffoons the lot of 'em.
Gimme GMT all the year; you want more time ? Get to work an hour earlier!

If "Daylight Savings" does in fact save energy, as was the original intent, then springing forward permanently would make sense. Corelation of GMT to Solar Noon is only meaningful for navigators and they all use GPS to determine Longitude now anyway and even if they didn't, they ignore artificial time zones and offsets to GMT in favor of the Coordinate Universal Time radio Signals from Ft Collins, CO or equivalent British and French coordinated time signals.

ETA: Getting up earlier to go to work early doesn't do any good unless the banks, customers, and other people you need to interact with also get up and about early.
