Chain Story - Matchmaking for the Shy

Have sent to @joy_of_cooking .

I'd totally forgotten the suggested word limit, so while I'm aiming at 10k, it may go a bit longer to up the hot parts.

Brit-picking is very much a hobby of mine, so if anyone ever needs it, do get in touch.

I'd say there is no reason to concern yourself with the word count at this point. However many words it takes to wrap it up.

I've sent a draft (with about as much sex as it'll have in total) to @TheRedChamber. It'll need a bit of reordering and editing - in particular I need to go through and check how many days it covers and that the characters are in sync with each other, not having two living a week while the others only pass two days.

If anyone else would like a read, to comment or to point out clunky bits and incomprehensible Britticisms, or just for interest, please drop me your email in a PM. I

've tried to respond to details in the first five chapters as much as possible, though I couldn't include everything without turning this into an entire novel. Thanks all for giving me characters where that would be feasible!

@Kumquatqueen Given how long it took me to produce a finished product, I'm not in a position to prod too much, but the draft you showed me a while back was in pretty good shape. How are things going?

Right, I have a just-about-final draft!

Would anyone like to look at it and ideally point out any totally un-American dialog, or other blatant errors before I submit it? It's 17,700 words, and no kinkier than previous chapters.

If so, please reply with an email address and I'll share the Google Doc with you.

With many thanks to @joy_of_cooking , I submitted the chapter last Thursday, 24/7. It's still Pending, which is the longest I've ever had to wait. I guess I'll leave it a week before poking Laurel - so much for my privileged status always getting stories posted within 48 hours, usually 24...

Oddly enough, I had the same thing happen with my chapter. My last few stories before that one sailed through, and both stories after did, but for the chair story I had to reach out to Laurel for the first time ever.

I messaged Laurel this lunchtime, seeing as it had been over a week. The story is now listed as being Published tomorrow.

No reply to the message. Presumably she read my note about the bit where a 13yo gives a shovel talk to the guy going out with her mom, and agreed it wasn't sexualising a minor - I'd asked that I be contacted if that section needed editing.

Congratulations, guys, we've done a Chain story!

Yay you guys! I’m proud of you! I have to say, this was a lot less speedy and straightforward than I had anticipated, both for your chain and ours. I haven’t read yours yet but I intend to.

Ours took about 6 months to complete, didn't it? And this one about 11 months.

I think it's obvious why the category is a ghost town. It's a huge amount of work to put together something that's cohesive.

It is, isn’t it? I know I for one was like, how hard can it be! All these good authors! It’ll be done in no time! Yeah, right…

I am very proud of all of us for succeeding, though.

My chapter has been on the category new list for over three months! Which would be superb, if only there were any readers! 😅

This was a nice exercise anyway, I don’t regret it by any means. Plus it get the category checked off my list, and that’s a huge plus.

Mine has been there for nine months: since 31 October last year. It's on 2.6k views. Not a huge number, but I write a lot in SF&F, so that's about average for my stories.

Mine has 1400 views and has by far the worst score of all of the chapters, but then it's mostly just procedural, doesn't feel the characters well, and has very little imagination and almost no steam, so ... whatever. It's there. (shrug)
