Chain Story - Matchmaking for the Shy

If the authors of chapters 1-5 could send me a quick reminder of their characters and who got with whom and their physical/mental descriptions, it would speed up my planning of ch.6 hugely...

A few bullet points in this thread might be easiest.

You might want to check out post 88 in this thread if you haven't already done so. That was my quick chapter summary for chapters 1-3 and full list of characters. I didn't do chapter 4 as that was a fairly straightforward run through Heather and Christian getting together. I'll include a summary of what's in my chapter when I send it out.

Okay, I'm happy with the draft. If anyone either wants to help beta read it or else is merely curious, I'll send out a copy later today. I've got @Kumquatqueen, @mrs_mackenzie and @joy_of_cooking 's email addresses, but if others are interested, send me your address in a PM. Just a warning, it's 19k which is obviously way outside the rules we set, but...was kind of needed as penulimate chapter to get where I wanted to be to hand off the finale.

Okay, I've had feedback from @joy_of_cooking and @mrs_mackenzie. Mrs M pointed out one fairly major continuity error which, while not fatal, will need to be reworked. Apart from that, they've both largely given me the green light. I'm snowed under at work at the moment but will aim to submit the story at the end of next week, maybe. @Kumquatqueen, if you've got any final requests for changes please let me know before then.

Chances of me looking at anything aren't high, but having read the draft I'm happy if the others are.

I may end up noodling about plot here, so people can correct me if their characters look to veer off in totally wrong directions.

Working from my notes, I thought @Kelliezgirl scene of Heather and Cassian took place in Cassian's apartment. When I wrote Part 5, I had Heather worrying about inviting Cassian back to her place given how much more luxurious his place was. I actually finished rewriting this section earlier. It didn't need much changing but the error was between chapters 4 and 5 it was very noticeable (if you were reading linearly, which I wasn't by that point).

Glad she caught that, hope you didn't lose too much when you had to fix it.

Has it been submitted yet? I've been assembling bits of plot for a finale, and was thinking Cassian might well panic at being a photo success story after only three weeks? Also what time of year have we got to - start of June?

But mainly I'll be nice to them - Cassian & Heather will have some deep meaningful conversation about finance but more importantly be inspired by her novels and the film Secretary, Zach and Emma will manage to work round his work. At some point she can tell someone quite truthfully that he's never put his cock in her...

No, its not submitted but very close.Mrs M suggested extending the blowjob and who am I to refuse a suggestion like that? I may or may not write it in the next three dsys, regardless, its done.

Re Cassian changes, what are you after? That he doesnt do the photoshoot kr thst he's panicking when he does?

No, I don't want any changes, just checking if there were any before I get planning too far - though I may not bother with much panic because this is more of a fun story than an emotional drama.

Currently trying to produce a couple paragraphs of the pornographic Shards of War sequel...

The only change from the version you've seen is the lead-in section to scene two. Heather is no longer fretting about having Cassian back to her apartment (because he's already been). Instead the putting up of the bookshelves is kicked off by the simple process of them having bought more books together.

Also, before you get too far into it, it's Sparks of War.

Thanks, that should be fine.

I realised the Sparks/Shards of War mix-up, so my current headcanon has Shards of War being the pornographic hard-to-find sequel. I don't think the original series had the individual books named? And I've trawled the Bad Sex Awards for inspiration for the content of it and the new one. Writing intentional terrible sex was fun!

Someone named one of the books, it was something like the mad kings delusion, but I havent been able to fond it right now. (Searching for 'king' in MatchmaKING for the Shy by Joy of cooKING is a thankless task)

Just finished reading the latest installment. Some very interesting twists and turns, well done.
Can't wait for the final installment.

I think I mentioned to @TheRedChamber when I was reading it how much I enjoyed where this story had gone. Some amazing ideas! And I think it is not at all easy to keep writing within the bounds of what previous authors have put. I had the easy part...

Just wondering, is Houston Wossface based on anyone in particular? I'm just thinking of a convention I worked at where an elderly male American fantasy author went somewhat bananas and was thrown out of his session by the audience. He claimed it was our fault for not having air-conditioning, though kindly he didn't blame us for his syphilis, which he shouted about all down the corridor as I helped escort him back to his nice cool room (albeit with no AC...)

I may also be speculating a bit too much about what Diane asked the gym guy to do that freaked him out in three minutes...

Thanks. Nice of you both to say.

No, Houston Rambold (the name was a placeholder but then I got used to how awful it was...) wasn't based off any one particular author or event - although it sounds like you have the life experience to write him.

Once I'd had the idea of doing Fifty Shades for H&C, I thought about doing something book-themed for Z&E and also felt that the Sparks stuff had kind of gotten lost a bit. Originally, I was thinking it would just be a Game of Thrones clone and let E do a bit of dress-up roleplaying with a 'strong female character.' Later, when I was thinking of Brienna's ways to promote the dating service, I felt a reading of a future chapter by (a more minor) George R.R. Martin would obviously be a coup for them. I didn't want to make it too obvious though so I decided to flip things so that instead of having spent decades not writing the next book, the book had been sitting finished in a drawer somewhere instead.

My second thought that a flipped version of the Gor series (by John Norman) with dominatrices rather than slave girls might be fun and a good fit for Zach. I also took some inspiration from some of the authors here who have a very specific brand of femdom-hotwife-sub-cuck fiction that they believe holds deep truths about relationships.

I needed a controversy for the book, and I was thinking about famous movies like the Last Temptation of Christ and Caligula and wondered about mashing them together to create something completely unpublishable. I'd been thinking about lots of 'seduction monsters' from Greek myth (sirens, nymphs etc) and also succubi and other sexy demons so that seemed to work.

I also needed Zach to like the series but also for it to be crazy - I was thinking about the Frank Herbert Dune books and how, while the first one is a stone cold classic they get increasingly bizarre and difficult to follow (in fairness to Herbert I was twelve when I read them and read them in the order my library had them). Those books are filled with religious and psychedelic drug imagery.

The mental damage from LSD is taken more from rock stars such as Syd Barrett and Peter Green than it is from any author I know about. Again, it seemed to fit with Brianna not being sure if Zach's T-shirt was from a fantasy book or a rock band.

And that is probably a way too long Why Huston Rambold Wrote What Huston Rambold Wrote.
