I've done a lot of these shoots since my first in 2003.

If the photographer tells you there is a "mandatory rehearsal" the night before don't go. Make up an excuse. Any excuse.

Don't sign a 'general waiver' but, instead, agree to a 'modified, medium-duration waiver'. Otherwise you'll be seeing the images pop up years from now when you are running for a local school board office.

Even the nicest photographers get greedy and all they own is their image inventory. Very few images will increase in value but those will be exploited to the max.
