Also why does BP have to pay for layed off oil workers that were due to Obama shutting them down for 6months.

So then you're in favor of the government not allowing this in the future or instituting more control so it never happens again?

Assumptions are made, here. If BP would have been allowed to drill in shallower waters (closer to shorelines) and the same disaster happened, things would be different?

The DeepWater Horizon was doing exploratory work. In 2009 it drilled the deepest oil well ever, at over 30,000 feet deep. I cannot seem to find any information on how deep the the weel was that caused to disaster. But my guess is another ultra-deep well.

So....if the well casing failed,(which seems to be the case) and the well was only a mile or two offshore...we'd have the same disaster, but even worse.

Being in deeper water does create more difficult conditions, obviously, but at least the well is further away from the shoreline.

But I don't think they'd be able to stop the "leak" if it was in 10 feet of water, given the nature of this well.

Second, clean up the gulf.

Third, look at what went wrong and fix it.

Scandal! Republican operatives have obtained Barack Obama's personal planner and leaked it in a new attack ad. It appears that the only thing Obama did during the oil spills' 58 days was hang out with celebrities and golf!

The ad released was released today, the day of the White House's big BP smackdown. It's a stinging indictment of Obama's lackadaisical approach to the oil spill. (He went golfing six times in 58 days!) And at :20, we see that GOP has somehow obtained an actual page from Barack Obama's real planner. What it shows is shocking:

This is like the Pentagon Papers plus the Wikileaks video and Watergate combined; this thing is going to bring down the Obama administration! It's a lot to digest, so here are just a few observations:

- Like every American, Obama leaves the worst things on his "To Do" list until last. (Underneath "Call BP CEO" it says "Have 'the talk' with Malia.")

- Obama is apparently a man who needs to write himself reminders to go on his family vacation. And he's the Commander in Chief!?

- Bono is so powerful that American presidents call him. Is our country secretly being run by Bono?

- We've heard that the GOP has also obtained Barack Obama's shopping list: A carton of Marlboro Lights and a hardcover copy of How to Ruin the Country for Dummies. Chilling.
