Who do you have? Verizon? T-Mobile? Sprint?

How do you like their services and plans?

Yes I'm looking.

Sprint

Pros:
I don't have a landline so I enjoy the free minutes starting at 7pm
Decent customer service, always able to get a person on the other end of the line
Less restrictive credit check
Been with them for 5yrs now, now considered a premier customer with some decent perks to that

Cons:
Less coverage area than Verizon
Less people I know on Sprint [mostly Verizon, T-Mobile, or Alltell]

I was with Sprint for 8 years. When I moved up to the Chicago area, I had a terrible time with coverage. I spent 4 months fighting with them. According to their map, I should have had coverage. Long story short, after trying everything they suggested, I ended up writing to the CEO of the company, which is when they finally let me out of my contract (that and the threat of turning them into the BBB ;) ).

I switched to Verizon and have had absolute wonderful service. There are no roaming fees. I can actually watch it switching from Verizon service to "extended coverage" and in the deadest of dead zones I have no problems. They were absolutely wonderful and patient with all of my questions and requests (I did go to a store so I would have in-person customer service). I can also closely monitor my sons use.

We are with Verizon and always have had great coverage and fantastic customer service. Both Amy and I have Blackberry Storms and they are amazing.

BTW, Verizon now owns Alltell. That is why they now have that Friends and Family plan (like AllTell used to have) that lets us treat ten non-Verizon numbers like they are Verizon numbers (not chaged any minutes).

I have Verizon. Compared to AT&T/Cingular and Sprint(Nextel), which I've also had, Verizon is the best of the three. Best coverage, best plans, etc. Plus the bonus of all Verizon to Verizon calls being airtime free (no minutes charged). Great for me because all of my family and friends are on Verizon. They've given good customer service. I've had to replace defective handsets and was able to do so with no trouble whatsoever.

I've had Verizon for 4 years and I love it. Rarely a dropped call.

A co-worker of mine has Boost Mobile and it's unlimited everything for about 50 bucks a month. There are no contracts, you just pay month to month....if you miss a payment, they cut you off...and she had to pay for her phone. But, she says her service is excellent.

This Link gives a little more detail on where the assets are that were purchased. It doesn't look like Florida is included in the deal.

I had Cingular a few years ago because it was the only service that I could use to talk to my daughter at college. (Originally signed on with Verizon and zip, zilch, nada - so I fired them and used Cingular - now known as AT&T).
I have AT&T now and the plan is probably not the best but I'm still able to talk to anyone on the AT&T net free and that was one of the criteria we originally considered when signing with Cingular in the first place......
I do not have a blackberry or any kind of 'upgrade' device. I have a device that allows me to get good reception and clear communication. (Nokia) A phone is a tool, just like a computer. Software is just a tool - your skill using it is the determining factor......
I'm not recommending any of the previous, it just works for me....that said, it's a jungle out there without a safe watering hole.....

Thanks all.

Here's what I'm looking at.

I currently have a home phone line so I can have Internet connectivity. (DSL) I pay $94.00 a month for this. I also have not one but two cell phones, (One for my wife and one for myself,) through Verizon. I pay $103.00 a month for this. That's a total of $197.00 a month so I can talk with people and stay online.

I wish to stay online and talk with people yet save money while doing so.

If I can find a Cell Service plan that allows me to surf the net and talk that would be great. (Getting rid of the Land Line and the attendant spam calls that go with it would be a plus.)

Any ideas?

Most providers offer broadband service through a usb device or even your cell phone (meaning your cell acts a broadband modem for your computer). You can check their websites or talk to a customer service agent for plan details and prices.

Look into Time Warner Road Runner for about $50/month for cable broad band.

I have had most of the phone services in the past except Verizon. Sprint is cheapest for me and my needs right now and I've had no problem, though I tend to stay on the main road corridors so never need roaming. I have a family plan with 4 phones, one of which has unlimited texting. I think I get a total of 800 combined minutes, but if we exceed it (haven't because the boy mostly texts) we get another 100 (?) minutes for $5. I think the total bill for the phones is about $110-$120 with taxes.

If you only need 2 phones, the 800 minute plan is $70 plus taxes, which you can check online.

Now that I think about it, a friend who works for Time Warner said they are getting into cell services, maybe partnering with someone...I'd have to ask him again. But they'd offer a bundle deal.

Jag, what are the perks?

ETA: Never mind. I checked. I do like the free tickets and yearly phone upgrade.

I have a small local cell provider - something you might look into, Cat...maybe there's one there where you are. I only pay $65/month, with absolutely unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, free long distance.

I pay $29.99 for cable internet through my cable company, and that price is guaranteed for two years.

We use US Cellular (regional from what I'm learning) We share minutes with my parents so 4 lines on one bill and we spend about 120 a month (hubby and I) for our phone service. We live in the stix and pay 80 bucks a month for satellite internet. I haven't really had any problems with US Cellular. I know a lot of AT&T customers have a lot of dead areas out here as do even a few Verizon customers.

I had ATT and they were just a bunch off fuckheads.

They got the billing screwed up after I was with them for several years, were billing me for someone else's phone...like $600 to $900 a month!

Took about 4 months for them to get their act together.

Then Switched to Cingulair...which then got bought by ATT.

Was planning on switching when my contract was up but my dad went down and bought a new phone (I have had him on my account for about 10 years). So they said the contract was for another two years.

I said said no fucking way! The contract is in MY name...and I did NOT sign another agreement.

Finally I just said fuck it.

So....my contract is up in Oct...and alot of folks have been raving about and recommending Metro PCS.

Theres no contracts and no activation fee and a monthly flat rate.

Thinkin thats where I'll go next.

Now, when I had AT&T before they became Cingular, I loved them. Within months of them switching to Cingular, my service went downhill. As soon as I got out of my contract, I switched to Verizon. That was 4 years ago. :)

In an earlier post, I mentioned a friend of mine had Boost Mobile. She previously had Metro PCS and hated it. She never had a good signal anywhere.

Boost has similar plans to Metro PCS and I've used her phone a few times since she's switched (seems those bastards at Verizon keep wanting money from me!) and I've never had any problems inside the assembly plant I work in. When I borrowed her phone on occasion while she was still with Metro, I always got a dropped call and had to redial.

But then of course if you're only looking for a phone for emergencies and such, TracFone is good too. It's all prepaid. They do have monthly plans, too, but no contracts. For like $10/month, you can get 50 minutes. No, not much, but l if you don't talk on the phone a lot, it's perfect.

Although, I'd guess any decision is based on preference and what kind of coverage is in your area. :)

Hey I'm on Sprint!

Cat you should be able to get rid of the phone/landline part of you bill and just pay for DSL service. That should reduce you bill by about 50 bucks.

An AirCard with unlimited data may run around 99 bucks a month. A phone that you tether to you computer would be the same. Plus the transfer rate isn't what your used to with DSL.

Well it's looking more and more like a toss up between Verizon and AT&T.

Their plans are fairly close, although AT&T looks a bit cheaper.

The Phones seem to be better through Verizon though. (I really like the Envy.)

I'm still looking though. We shall see.
