So, we know that many stars keep their sex lives private, particularly if their preferences could hurt their careers by offending the sensibilities of middle America and the foreign markets. Some are, perhaps, less "closeted" than others...certainly, people were more shocked by Rock Hudson than by Liberace, right?

I'm wondering who's in the "leather closet." Who, in other words, is kinked in our kinda ways? This could be fun..

My suspicion:
Angelina Jolie & Billy Bob Thornton
They tattooed each other's names right away, they're both into goth styles and black leather, and I read a BBT interview in which he showed the interviewer around their home--except for one room which he chuckled while calling "the dungeon."

Also, look at him and look at her. Clearly, the man's got something going besides his looks. And, he gives off incredible intensity in his stare. I suspect he's Dom, she's a willful wild-child sub, and they have amazing sex and hideous fights.

At least, if I were a betting woman...

Melissa Etheridge I'm not sure about, particularly with songs like "Sleep While I Drive" and "Like I Do." They sound service-sub oriented and emotionally needy. I think she's at least switchy, if not sub. I think she's a balancing sub, to reference Eb's thread.

k.d. lang, though, says Daddi all the way to me. She's one of the few really butch lesbians I've ever found attractive, too, so that could be a factor in my impressions.

I wonder about Ellen Barkin, Julian Sands, and James Spader as well. They've all done a disproportionate number of highly charged films set on the kinkier edge of sex and gender.

The women she plays are almost always aggressively sexual, open to exploration, and somewhat emotionally masochistic.

Julian Sands: He's the other half of the main dramatic pairing in Mercy, but he's also done a *lot* of other roles which play on sex--and which often do sex on the gothic edge. See The Loss of Sexual Innocence, Impromptu, Boxing Helena, and his turn as the evil sadist pimp in Leaving Las Vegas. Even his version of the incarnation of evil in the Warlock movies (and his time in Gothic) are tinged with a kink-feeling.

James Spader: Half of his career has been directed at the sexual fringe. Sex, Lies and Videotape looks at voyeurism and infidelity; Secretary (out this fall) is a lifestyler's movie--that won at Sundance!; Crash depicts Ballard's world of people erotically obsessed with violent destruction and car crashes; even Bad Influence has a heavy voyeuristic impulse. The scenes with Lisa Zane (Billy's sister, a killer and underrecognized scream queen) are a weird love-triangle with Rob Lowe, and they're simultaneously sadistic, masochistic, and voyeuristic.
