Im clutching at straws here folks, but if you don't ask you don't get.
Does anyone know if you can get into or recover images from a CDR disc which is password protected?

I commited images some years ago to a CDR and have forgotten the password (at least that is the error message that comes up)! D'oh!

If anyone could be of help I would be most greatful although I think I know the answer already.

Ciao !

Foot note...

I did a little experiment this morning using two identical images. One I encrypted the other I left alone. Then I burned both to a CDR. When I tried to decrypt the encrypted one ot wouldnt have it. Simularly the other would not encrypt when I tried to do that.

So I guess I have answered my own question. But if anyone can confirm or deny this i would be mosr greatful.

How did you "enccrypt" the CDR? I'm not aware of any OS that does this natively, so what software did you use?

I used "EasyCrypto Delux". But as I said in my further post, I think the problem may be that I burned the disc with the files already encrypted. The little experiment I did wouldn't let me decrypt after burning. Is that the norm with CDRs? If you can offer another explanation Im all ears.

Thanks for your interest though

Cheers

Try changing the Read-Only attribute on an encrypted file to Read Only and see if that is what is preventing the decryption. Files on a CD are, by their nature, read-only files.

You may be able to decrypt the files by moving them back to a HD and clearing the RO flag.

Nice suggestion! Moved the two test images back to the hard drive and decryption worked even without changing the RO attribute. Will try the subject CDR later. Assuming that it wasn't me that forgot the PW there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

So to summarize... it seems that if you put an encrypted file to disc, you have to move it back to the HD before decryption. And for the record you can't encrypt once something is commited to disc.

Many thanks WH. :nana:

That did the job. All images recovered.

Many thanks for your advice!

Comp :)

PS: See... I hadn't forgotten the PW and I'm not loosing my marbles! :D
