Alright, I have Roxio, but for some reason, my VCD program isn't working. anyone know of a freeware that allows you to simply drag files onto a CD? I'm not looking for anything special, I just want to move some video files off of my computer so I have more room

Nero (Burning Rom) is much better for burning VCD's.

just use the data option and copy the files on. VCD requires specially encoded mpg files to create an auto-starting VCD. If you just save the video in data format you can run it by just double clicking on it later from the CD.

Tried that.. that doesn't work either..

what errors are you getting?

You could try another burning software, but it may be a communication problem. Does any burning work?

With Nero, you can burn any mpg as a VCD by turning off standard compliance.

I don't get any errors, the programs simply will not open.. and I can burn music just fine... and I can burn VCD's, but only if they are in a particular format, and converting the formats is excruciatingly slow

Roxio will as well with an 'Add Anyway'. I just never tried it...hmmm...god forbid I waste the $.25 for a CD-R :)

Unfortunately, there's no getting around re-encoding other formats to mpg. A slow process no matter what.

Yeah, When I want to get my videos playable on my PS2, I'll do that, but as of right now, I just want to get them off my computer.. my hard drive is full *G*

Ok, I misunderstood you. You said you were using a VCD program, so I assumed you were trying to burn a VCD.

If you can't just make a data-CD, then you could have a variety of problems.

Anyone know of a good way to take MPEG's and AVI's and make them playable on a DVD player without going through the annoying conversions?

Burn MPEG's as VCD's....if your DVD player can play VCD's, and even some DVD players that can play VCD's will only accept certain media types....ie blue bottom, gold bottom, black bottom, CD-R, CD-RW etc...

AVI's can not be burned directly as VCD's...they must be converted to MPEG first and then burned as a VCD.

Okay... Nero will make video Cd's for me... but I can fit maybe a one hour show on a CD... is there any way to get more data on a CD?
