Navy SEAL involved in the raid that killed bin Laden retires and writes a book about it under a pseudonym. Hue and cry about national security, etc.

FOX News uncovers the guy's real name and broadcasts it. Right on! Show that bastard who's boss!

Except that it turns out Al Qeada has called for the author's death. And now they have a handy road map to find him with.

Whoopsie!

Leaks are bad!

Wait, leaks are good!

Shit! Leaks are back to bad again!

The regular Liberal Media is too busy sucking Obama's cock to do any actual news business.

*too partisan...oopsie*

You'd think a SEAL would have a better appreciation of the risks involved.

Oops.

He wrote under a pseudonym. Would you agree that, had he written under his own name, he would have been putting himself in danger?

If so, would you agree what whoever ELSE reveals his name, puts him in danger?

Deciding to write under a pseudonym does not guarantee privacy and never has in the past.

I don't know the content, I don't know his motives. I wouldn't even write a fiction novel under a pseudonym and expect to not be outed. This would attract much more attention in magnitudes of importance than a fiction novel.

It's foolish to believe the pseudonym would hold and foolish to think that this mission, and others, wouldn't attract huge amounts of attention from individuals, much less governments and other interested parties and groups with lots of money and resources at their disposal to ensure this doesn't go unanswered in one way or the other.

Whatever danger he put himself in, he started the dominoes falling and I would have hoped he'd know better than to push the first domino and think a "pseudonym" would protect him.

If he's gonna be dumb he'd better be tough.

No worries, the SEAL hired a Security Consultant.

You start at the book. Let's start at the mission.

"If he's going to be part of a secret SEAL team, he's going to have to expect to get outed!"

Rhetorically identical to your position. What if FOX had revealed the names of the team members before the mission?

No, I don't think he should expect to be outed, but I would think that if he wrote down the details, it wouldn't be that hard to find him.

It's not identical.

We have a free press and the trick is to keep this stuff from the press and not give them enough evidence to find him. Undercover fail.

I honor his service, but I also honor the purpose of the press. He made it a great deal easier to publicize his identity by publicizing his involvement.

Hopefully he can get some help from the government to relocate or change his identity...but...oh yeah. Government might be a tad peeved.

As phrodeau mentioned, it might just be bait and everyone pretending to play along. I hope so, because if this crap is earnestly as it appears...major undercover fail.
