When my boy picks on the girl should I yell at him? He doesn't hurt her. He just smacks at her ass and bites her butt. She gets in a submissive position and runs away when she has had enough. If they really got into it I think she'd kick his ass.

Sounds like she might be in heat.

Cats play kind of rough. It often looks like they’re fighting. I have a couple young male cats, both under 5 years of age. One is a Siamese. The way they chase each other through the house, you'd think they were going to kill each other. Sometimes they play with claws out, and then you see the hair fly. But, sometimes they don't have their claws out and you hear a thump, when their paws make contact.

As long as the female has the option to leave if she wants, I'd not worry about it. They usually have no problem letting the male know, when he's not allowed some sort of advance.

But, I once had a couple of cats that didn't like each other. Once one chased the other and took a swipe at him, with his claws out. He caught the other cat in the side and the venom in his claws caused a nasty infection that turned into a hefty Vet bill.

They've both been fixed. He still sniffs her pussy. Makes me feel bad for cutting his balls off. He would be holy hell if he had balls.

You can try to give him a friendly foot to advise him that such behavior isn't acceptable, but, the truth is, short of really laying into him and making him afraid of you anytime you walk near him, nothing you do will likely curb the behavior.

I have two cats - sisters - about 3 years old. In the morning they chase each other all over the place but never use claws. One sniffs the others butt every time the pass each other - the other could care less.

damn pussies....

a squirt from a water bottle from across the room might help change the behavior without creating the personal fear association - might

I do some animal rescue work and right now I've got 14 of them running around. Some like each other more than others and there is an occasional spat with a bit of hissing and swatting, but not much in the way of real aggression. For what it's worth it doesn't sound to me like anything you need to worry about. Cats usually tend to sort themselves out pretty much on their own. I've found they're much better that way then dogs.

Actually this is all perfectly normal. Cats, like most animals, have a pecking order. There will always be a head cat. If he is 'picking' on her it's because she has overstepped her mark at some point or he is merely asserting his authority.

If you attempt to 'discipline' him in any way then you will 'confuse' him and the situation and his behaviour is likely to get worse and more aggressive.

My only advice would be to ensure that you keep their claws trimmed to try and avoid the above mentioned injuries that can easily happen.

Strawberry = cat dork !!

I wouldn't stress too much. Ours both have at least one daily wrestle, sometimes with claws and more serious, sometimes just exercise and cheekiness. Marcella is the ruler of the house, but she chooses times when she will allow Zora to have top spot, pick of the spot of sun etc., and they both take turns at washing each other which can quite often just be a ruse to get the other one's guard down before a full on attack. If for any reason I do not want the squabbling to continue, such as days when Marcella is being a 24/7 bitch, I might clap my hands and they scatter and setlle for a couple of hours at least.

That's true... some cats aer more 'trainable' than others, and some have a bigger aversion to water than others.

Leave 'em alone. Cats have their own dynamic just like people. Your male is just reminding her he's boss and she's aknowledging it.

Part of it might be jealousy. I've had him since he was a kitten and got her as an adult. He hated her in the beginning. And still won't come around me if she's around. However he's a lot happier now when he is left in the house alone with her. That used to fuck him up for a whole day. Now he is pretty much normal when I get home.

He's not really hurting her either. They have had a good fight or two but not in years. She's a rescue and a street fighter. He doesn't want to throw down with her.

LOL I've seen boy and girl cats fight, and normally the boy is the one that runs off. lol

The couple I've been seeing got a kitten earlier this week - Queen Elizabeth ;) she's super cute.

The first time their big 18 lb, 12 yo male cat Davi came in, Queen Elizabeth arched her back and puffed up into this frightening, hissing, scary little ball of death. She hopped sideways towards Davi, hissing and spitting, and the poor older cat ran away faster than I've ever seen him move.

wanted to share.

*lol*

My friends cats.. Affectionately known as the fuzzy bowling ball, and the lardsack... Will break out in this at random times... It's pretty normal.

The real fun begins when they start breaking out in Matrix reinactments at about 4 AM...

Yep that's how they do it and having them fixed changes nothing.

Cats rule.

99% of the time he's a very good boy. And he adores people. The girl is a little shy around strangers.

Well I can tell from his AV that he's a handsom boy.

I am totally amused and partly worried by this thread.

I got a calico almost two years ago after mentioning how cool their genetics were to my mom. Guess what I got for my birthday? a fiery and fiesty creature.

but mostly she's well behaved - except for a particular fetish for plastic. she's destroyed several shower curtain liners. and by several, i mean that i buy a new liner about once a month. also, she LOVES to crawl into those plastic bags that they put your groceries in... sometimes she manages to get inside one before i notice when i'm putting things away. i'll laugh at her than pick up the bag and carry her around in it. she loves it. she's such a freak. so i have to be careful to not leave bags lying about.

but she's still young and I'm considering getting a second kitten... especially as I'm i n the process of closing on a 1600 square foot townhome and the space is more than adequate for two little monsters. but i worry about finding a good companion for my kitty.

oh, those kitties

I have two (one 17 yrs old, one 12 yrs old, both female), and I don't think the 17-yr-old has ever forgiven me for bringing the other into the house. If the younger one is in my lap, the older will get up and leave. *sigh* The crabby-pants. When they were both younger, I used to notice a big difference in the "consentual" play: if there was no noise (read "no screaming"), everyone was having a good time, regardless of how violent it looked.

My calico chews up paper and spits it out. Great fun for her. She also wakes me up if she thinks I'm sleeping too late by sticking one claw, just one, in my back or my head.

Yeah once my girl jumped up on my bed and the boy was there. He left and went in the kitchen to pout. They are cute though when they both stand at the door and look out together.

yeah... and I'm really unsure about moving her into a new place and than almost immediately introducing another cat. maybe it's better not to wait. maybe it's better to wait.

oh - and wd, i did successfully train my cat to do one thing and only one thing. she used to wake me every morning so she could be fed. but by stead fast ignoring her and refusing to feed her til after showering - she learned that waking me didn't get her what she wanted. so instead she purrs against my back or stomach and settles for a smidge of cuddling. greedy little mistress.

It's a little difficult to tell from the AV WriterDom but you may in fact have a kitler on your hands there. Sounds like pretty normal cat behaviour to me. I used a water pistol as each of our new furry doms took up residence to get them quickly off food preparation areas etc. Our cat Dommy does as he pleases , if anything a little too content , I like watching him a little manic & playful. Considering an addition when I can afford the spectrum of costs involved. It's good you have two , the lone kitler can get fairly bored.

My guys do the exact same thing more or less. I think even when you fix them they get stuck about 1/3 through "mating"

then he gets this great look on his face like "I know I'm supposed to do something here, but damn I just don't remember what" and that's when she takes the oppoutunity to whack him in the head and run away. She's pretty much a wuss, eats second, gets slapped around when they play fight.

But they also spend most of the days licking each other and sleeping. Seems like a fairly healthy relationship for a randy young college guy and a middle aged asexual lady thrown together at random.
