Warning: this thread was inspired by watching eddie murphy's golden child movie.

If [when :D] your story was made into a movie, who would you cast in the lead? It can be anyone, from brad pitt to jerry springer.

From The Shock of Her Life:

Charles- Tony Shalhoub....
Laura: Eva Longoria
Nathan Jones: Michael Clarke Duncan
Becky: Jennifer Garner

Wishful,

The problem with doing that is most folks probably won't be familiar with the characters. Many long years ago, one of my weirder cousins and I would do a variation on this by casting Tennessee Williams' "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof." The "casts" might be great, inappropriate, politicians, local folks, whatever.

A WORST cast might include:
Maggie "the Cat" Pollitt: Anna Nicole Smith (dead, but same acting ability)
Brick Pollitt: Dom Delouise
Big Daddy: William Shatner
Big Momma: Calista Flockhart
Gooper: Ice-T (Big Daddy suspects he may not have sired Gooper)
Mae Flynn: Mary-Kate Olson

Politicians
Maggie: Hillary Clinton
Brick: Arnold the Gov.
Big Daddy: Dick Cheney
Big Momma: Nancy Pelosi
Gooper: G W Bush
Mae Flynn: Ann Coulter

Author's Hangout
Maggie: Vella
Brick: Belegon
Big Daddy: Og (hey, if Laurence Olivier can play the part, so can Og)
Big Momma: Abs
Gooper: Rumple (who else?)
Mae Flynn: Stella Omega

Just a thought.

Rumple Foreskin

Heck, rumple, some of us are so uncultured they haven't seen or read cat on a hot tin roof. Half the fun is seeing your cast and then going and reading the story.

Hey Y, good choices. Jennifer Garner is one of my fav tv actresses

Do you mean a lit story or my life story? My lit stories are already cast. My life story would be a little harder (though I'v been told I should be played by Matthew Lillard by a couple of people).

Thank you, Wishful. :D

When I wrote this, the main characters in my mind's eye looked like Mos Def and Kate Beckinsdale.

Hmm, I wonder if I shoulda put it in Interracial. It woulda crashed and burned like nobody's business.

Which story?

If I was to cast my vampire anthology it would be Hugo Weaving for Georges, and Emily Watson for Diane.

While I'm flattered that you would think of me in matrimonial terms, can we forego the brood of *shudder* "no-neck monsters"?

Be brave, Stella.

Wishful, my cousin and I stopped the "bad cast" version of the game after a remake came out with Natalie Wood as Maggie, Robert Wagner as Brick, and Laurence Olivier as Big Daddy. There was no way we could ever top that.

Somehow, I can see Hollywood casting Rodney Dangerfield as Harry Dick. But that's not the person I see him as being.

For my upcoming character: Chase Cooder - Bush Pilot!, maybe Leonardo DiCaprio ,or how about Justin Timberlake (he's showing some legit acting chops). Though it would be just as good to have a cast of unknown future stars a la Alien, when it first came out.

I always assume unknowns would play my characters, because I doubt any agent would allow their best clients to do my scenes
Plus, I'm Media Impaired, and I don't know the names or faces of most current actors.

Although I try to write my characters in a way that allows the reader total leeway in imagining them, I myself have pretty vivid vision of what they look like. I tend to look for my people on the streets though. Sometimes I've seen them- I saw a young man who was Tracy once, which shook me up a bit. It wasn't just the look but his stance, height, demeanor...

The cast of Walk's End: Birds of Prey:

Sheriff Greyvan - Goran Visnjic
Sergeant Veda - Kiera Knightley
Lanceconstable Maranya - David Krumholtz
High Priestess Faela - Lauren Graham
Her clumsy daughter, novice Branyr - Christina Ricci
The psychic, Unnara - Emma Watson
The healer, Corada - Melissa Joan Hart
The Queen, Arene - Jessica Alba
Lady Yshanna - Rose McGowan
The falconeer, Wyrroth - Eric Bana
Lyrus the Grey - Orlando Bloom
Sayeth - Thomas Ian Nicholas
Belganna - Sarah Brightman

Cast of Hank & His Neighbors

Hank: Powers Boothe (he's the sort of cool cat who'd be up to it)
Sally: Anna Paquin
Yasmin: Natasha Lyonne
Candy: Tara Reid
Connie: Connie Nielsen (duh, the character was slightly modeled on her)
Mina: Nicole Kidman or Naomi Watts
Seth: Billy Bob Thornton (because the idea of him playing a gay man is rather fascinating)
Guy: Cliff DeYoung (he'd be quite convincing as a hypocritical preacher)
Karen: Mary-Louise Parker
Penny: Annabeth Gish (it would be interesting to hear her with a British accent)
Lewis: Jason Lee (seeing him with a mean streak would be a nice twist)
Reggie: Ryan Philippe (few fit the pretty-boy look that I have in mind for Reggie quite as well)

Those are the major characters, anyway....
