Casino Royale

Go see it!

No, really.

The new Bond guy was surprisingly good, and I wasn't expecting that.

And, they show him naked. :D (He works out.)

And, And, the new type of Bond Girl is cool: Brains, beauty, and she doesn't fall (immediately) into bed with Bond.

I give it two thumbs up.
It exceeded my somewhat tempered expectations as well. The chase scenes were longer than I would have liked, but the plot kept me interested. It was less cheesy and chliched than a lot of the previous bond films, even going so far as to discretely mock some of the Bond conventions.

I fell for Eva Green's character, and she ended up being pretty interesting, albeit a little more helpless than I would have found realistic. Still, she wasn't as helpless as a lot of action women, so that was good. She had great boobs too, although she's one of those actresses I'm afraid will lose 10-15 pounds and go from being very attractive to skeletal.

Casino Royale is highly recommended, the Bond character is very well done and the action is top-notch. The best Bond? Don't be ridiculous. The scene in Dr. No, the first Bond film, captures Sean Connery's 007 at his ruthless best. At the end of the film, Dr. No's henchman Professor Dent decides to do the job himself by ambushing Bond, but 007 outwits him and Connery, cigarette jutting from his mouth, sardonically shoots him dead even after Dent had run out of bullets.

The Fleming novels have nothing to do with the movies, read them if you want an insider's view of the British Secret Service during the Cold War, but not if you're expecting a novelization of an Albert Broccoli production.
