The law has been used dozens of time since its inception. Eisenhower, JFK, LBJ, George H.W. Bush all invoked the Act, Bush was the last to use it when he sent 4500 Marines into Los Angeles to suppress the Rodney King riots. Incidentally in 1967 LBJ sent 2,000 army paratroopers were sent to Detroit with tanks and armored cars, killing forty-three people and arresting 7,000 people.
