Carry On.

A quick glance at the mainstream media tells me they aren’t doing a good job of letting you know the precarious nature of your position.

I say, “your” if you are American, Canadian, or Western European. If not, I don’t have any knowledge or opinion.

At any rate, I’m not going to list the reasons I think we are at risk. You can take some time to figure that out on your own - or not.

While I have never believed in centering one’s life around preparing for disaster, I do think some kind of thought and preparation is wise.

You will never regret being able to take care of what you value most, even if you never have to.

Good luck!

Remember the big run on toilet paper and other "essential" items at the beginning of the COVID pandemic? Mass panic purchasing is never a good substitute for gradually developing as much independence as possible from corporate supply chains.

Many Americans can no longer take care of meeting the basic needs in their lives, because they have become so accustomed to being told what to buy and why they need to beat others to the punch in getting those items. Dog-eat-dog mentality ensues.

Why is the truth never quite enough for you people?
The truth is fine with me. The label of "TRUTH" as filtered through the colored lens of your bias isn't. Get back to me when you can stand up and look at what is, rather than what you want it to be.

It should be fairly obvious that in this case, I am not speaking of any particular factual item and am instead commenting on your inability to address what is actually said instead of dreaming up something you can dispute or disparage.

But that is common here. Most of you people are absolute morons who confuse reciting talking points given to you by “trusted sources” with thinking for yourselves. The most you can do on your own is to misrepresent what is said in order to have something to disagree with.

Nobody really thinks for themselves and you absolutely should be quoting authority figures unless you happen to be one yourself and can show your own credentials. If Neil DeGrasse Tyson says one thing about how gravity works and I say 'You wouldn't be the first scientist to be wrong' we don't really have a disagreement. Even if 50 years down the road I turn out to be right and the world really does resonate with Michael Jackson's Thriller played backwards I'm still the idiot in the conversation.

Being prepared to any serious degree in any developed way for things that don't come up somewhat regularly is just paranoia. Californian's being prepped for an earthquake? I'm down, its borderline paranoid when MOST of us have never been in a an earthquake that affected anything. This from someone who if you google Northridge Quake that was me. Like any picture you find is within walking distance for a 10 year old at the time. That was nearly 30 years ago and I've never even had a quake do more than knock over a glass of water since.

If you live in in Gulf ARea or some of the North East you know between hurricanes and snowstorms you gonna get fucked. That's prepared.

If gas prices shoot up there ain't shit 90% of us can do about it. Either the government has it under control or they don't and there is no good that will come from fighting it. That would be a full on Zombie Apocalypse sort of thing.

In this case you’re simply wrong. There is no looming catastrophe about to strike the United States, Canada, and Western Europe.

Fascism thrives on fear and uncertainty, so bad actors on the far right are always spreading tales of gloom and doom.

Kind of like how "15 days to stop the spread" turned into "have you had your booster yet" and how some people STILL wear a mask (and some locals are mandating them again)?

Many people will realize far too late they can't continue living where they are. Gated community homeowners becoming homeless refugees could be a common life change.

People are still dying from Covid. The pandemic isn’t over

I don’t think suburbanites will become homeless refugees. But as car culture dies, a lot of suburban houses will be abandoned.

no, kinda like how trump said it would be over in the spring of '19 when the weather warms up.

derp.

I don’t think you actually understand what Fascism means and I’m certain you have no idea what it thrives on.
There is certainly a strong fascist element on the American right. They want a strongman to prevent blacks and immigrants from stealing the hereditary power of white Christians. They are obsessed with projecting manliness and strength. The solution to every problem is more cops and more guns.

Manufacturing a sense of impending societal collapse feeds into this paranoid narrative and justifies the intended repression. See, for example, the myth that BLM burned down American cities.

I don't remember the 15 days to stop the spread but regardless we clearly failed at our task in a way only America could.

Luckily most of California nobody lives in so we'd be a bit better off depending on the issues. But a lack of water and gas would suck.

Nobody is stopping you from licking streetlamp poles if you want to do that, you know.

What is your ideal form of government?

That is fascism.

But, to expand on the question, Fascism means that: The individual's free will and freedom of choice is subordinate to that of the government, which controls every aspect of an individual's life. The government rules with an iron fist and does not tolerate dissent. And the government operates under a supreme leader with no checks and balances, as all branches of government (judicial, executive and legislative) are subordinate to the will of the leader and are tools for the leader to execute his will, as opposed to checks on his authority.

What does it thrive on- okay; the next part of the question. It thrives on both fear of retribution from governmental authority, for one. Step out of line, get pounded down. But on a basic level, it thrives on a mutual sense of nationalism and purpose, a fear of outsiders and change, and a sense of tribalism: "Us," our people, we who are the chosen few, and outsiders are the enemy to be destroyed.

In your posts, I have seen you over and over again lobby for this type of government in the U.S., with one supreme leader (Trump) who controls every aspect of people's lives and stifles individual liberty (Religion, anti-gays, sexual freedom, freedom of expression) and no checks and balances. And of course, promotes fear of outsiders and change (Build the wall, round up the immigrants, deport em all, no fuck that; KILL em all!) and an "us vs them" (We don't like gays, trans, liberals, etc.) This is what you want.

The rest of us average Americans- guess what; we don't.

She's a ninny and willfully blind.

She believes preppers are "afraid of something" yet she herself prepares in case there's a disaster.

She believes that conservatives are fascists while also supporting mandates which close schools/restaurants/gyms/churches and require wearing a mask because of a virus which has become so benign that these days people catch it and aren't aware they're even sick.

She believes that she can tell people where to live and work. She believes that her ideals are superior to the ideals of other individuals.

SHE is the fascist. And yet she points the finger are others who refuse to submit to the yoke of oppression she mandates "for the good of all" as being the ones who are trying to force others to do what they want rather than what those others want.

Anyone want to bet she has a Free Palestinian flag hidden someplace?

I love the way you continue to find new ways to be completely wrong about everything all the time.

You must be fun to watch in real life.

His brain is fucked up. Whatever you want, he's against it.

Personally, I like water. I'd like to see everyone drink lots and lots of water. At least 2 liters every day. If I could I 'd mandate that everyone drink at least 2 liters daily.

I wonder what he thinks of that?

I couldn't have stated this this better 👍

So basically she's correct and when we stray too far from this system we end up fucked over it because its fucking stupid?

I support Israel.

Since you seem to understand what kinked_a_bit is prepping for, please tell the rest of us.

I believe conservatives are fascists because they keep trying to install an unelected white nationalist strongman as president.

Long COVID causes persistent heart and brain damage. It weakens your immune system, making you more susceptible to other infections. Being vaccinated and wearing a mask in crowds is just common sense.

The government spends too much money subsidizing private cars. Some of that funding should be redirected to mass transit and bicycle infrastructure.
