Ok, yes I was kind of hoping for the huge upset, but, I have to say. The best team won. Congrats to the Detroit Red Wings and all their fans. With a team full of future hall of famers, they are the best around. The Hurricanes and their fans should be proud to have reached the finals. CarolineOH said a while ago "hope they have many years of dreaming". Hopefully it will be only one more year.

The Hurricanes put forth a marvelous effort, and they are to be congratulated for having the great season they did. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them go all the way next year.

To Carolina fans, the reports we hear in Detroit is that Carolina has great tailgating, friendly folks, tolerant of Wings gear and all around Southern Hospitality.

Congrats!

Congratulations to the Red Wings and Octopi fans. The team was well deserving. :)
Also congrats to the Canes for coming so far, when few thought they could. See yas next year!

congrats to the best team in hockey

Congrats to you Wings fans,

Folks down here had a ball, I hope we can sustain the interest. I was hoping for a longer series but really had no allusions about winning. The Canes are an easy team to like, I hope they can continue to progress. People liked your fans but found Mitch A.'s columns to be a bit insulting (they ran them in our local paper). Toronto's fans really taught us what die hards are all about though. They had 4-5000 folks come down for the games in NC.

It was fun to watch, though I have to say that the Wings/Colorado series was just amazing hockey.

As someone who grew up with the Whalers prior to moving to NC, I was slow to embrace the Canes but Ron Francis brought me around.

Any estimatations if any other of the old guys are going to retire with Bowman?

Hockey has no place south of the Mason-Dixon line. It's just silly.

LK! Shame on you. With a mouth like that, I think you need gagging. Come here, I have something for you. :D

Ron Francis brought me around.

Ronnie and Irbe pull at my heart strings
(yeah, I know that's such a girly thing to say). My other half pulls for the Canes, if the Flyers aren't playing. Especiall, since they aquired Brind'Amour.

Gag me with a garter

~LOL~ @rain.

If you can't make ice rinks outdoors, it' just ain't natural to play hockey. Look, it's simple really, up north they do hockey, down south they ummmmm... drink mint juleps 'n' such.

Old guys who could retire list is as follows...

Hasek the cup was the only thing left for him to accomplish and now that he has it, the call of his homeland may beckon.

Larionov He can still play, and my guess is he will be back.

Yzerman He wants to play till he's 40, but needs off season surgery, may hang up the skates on top and that's not a bad way to go.

Chelios Has said hockey is all he knows so he's going to play until he can no longer play. He can still play.

Duschene Finally has a cup after 16 years and countless teams.

I really don't expect that many will retire, but the time is coming that many of our stars will be gone. Fortunately, the Wings have done an excellent job of developing young talent and future
leaders. I think a better question is who will take over? Will Lewis and Smith stay? Does one become the head coach, or do they pick an outsider and completely change the system?

Raindancer,

RE: the Flyers,
That's interesting given the issues with Primeu (sp?). I like Keith too, they all work hard and haven't done anything stupid in the community yet which is nice (except for the gut who killed himself drunk driving).

Are you two Trianglite's too?

eep. That's almost all of the US, LK!
And what in the hell is a mint julep?
I've lived in the south for a majority of my life and I have no clue what that is. Hehe.
Now, leave me to my hockey. I have all sorts of ideas of what to do with those sticks. :D

He's from NJ and has been a Flyers fan forever minus Lindross. I was raised in NC. We moved down, from Jersey, over a year ago. I live about an hour from Raleigh.

Thanks for the reply,

Glad to know there are some other lit folk in the are - I live in CH but work in Raleighwood.

It is not girly if you let them pull at your g-string too. :)
