Cards up 4-2. Looks like Rob won't get to see Chipper strike out at the hands of Gio.

Had the Braves won;

The Nationals would have played the Braves in Atlanta on Sunday, and the Redskins would have played the Falcons in DC on Sunday.

Just got home. That sucked.

Who knew there was such a thing as an "outfield fly rule".

I also don't understand why the 1st place team has to travel to the 4th place team to start the series.

I still don't understand what happened.

100 feet out in the outfield, the shortstop lost the ball, the umpire called "infield fly rule" for an automatic out. Terrible call.

Impressive amount of debris thrown on the field though.

I was at a Braves game in the 80s where the umpires totally blew a fair/foul call resulting in a screwy inside-the-park home run for the Padres....the fans booed every single pitch for the next two innings. It was surreal, almost scary.

I did not see it but I read about it and it seems to me that invoking the infield fly rule is not a terrible call. Unpopular but maybe not wrong since it was the shortstop who went after it and did so without any special effort.
At least that's how I understand the rule and how it's supposed to be used. I can't recall the last time I saw it used in a real game though. Seems sorta rare but maybe I just don't watch enough baseball.
Or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about. I dunno. I suppose that's possible.

Take a look, you tell me.

Now see I can see that call going either way. Yes, he was in the outfield but being in the outfield doesn't negate the rule as I understand it. I can see how it would be called he made extra effort and I can see how someone would say he didn't.
I have no dog in the fight so I think I'm being objective about it. I'm not an expert by any stretch though.

I'll revisit it in the morning when I'm sober. I'm pretty lit up right now.
