Yes, there are some fucked-up priests...but they are NOT the only fucked-up people in this world. Look at all the Boy Scout leaders who have done the same thing...coaches, teachers, daycare workers.

You cannot blame the ENTIRE community for something that an individual does. Get to the root of the problem. Nail the abusers to the cross and let em hang...as well as those few in power who knew. They ARE accessories. BUT you cannot blame the entire church.

Get real, people.

Seems to me you can blame the U.S.A. Catholic Churches. They knowing reassigned child molestors. FACT.

But not EVERY priest, Archbishop, etc did that...there were a FEW that knew...Get those ones...You cannot tell me with a clear conscience that you blame every church for this. That would be like blaming Indiana for you.

I blame the Cardinals, they are the ones that tried to cover it up. This has been going on for years, maybe if they run the beads all will be forgiven, right.

The brat's right. Personally I'm not a huge fan of organized religion, but I an a huge fan of the Catholic Church I grew up in. Father Michael was an AMAZING spiritual leader and the church has done more good in our community than I can list.

But you don't have to take the bad with the good. The Vatican has some house cleaning to do, and I think this is just the wake up call they need.

No, I don't think he did know...there are a lot of things that are covered up at the grass level before it rises to the top. I think that a few in the hierarchy in the US knew...THEY should be punished...no holds barred.

Exactly! This whole thread could be changed to cover all pediphiles not just the Catholic priests. In any population you will find child molesters. The media attention has focused on the church, but the problem is much larger. Granted the hierarchy of the church in the US mishandled the small percentile of priests involved by moving them around, hoping the problem would go away. For that there is no excuse, but, pediphilia is a much broader issue!

I see your point, Cat...but we are not discussing, teachers or boyscout leaders...we are discussing priests. There are lots of bad people in the world, we aren't discussing them all here. And I think you are wrong...the molesting of children by priests has been going on a very long time...this Boston priest is not the first to go on trial...the Pope knew.

It's time for the Catholic church to make some changes. Priests should be allowed to marry. Females should be allowed to become priests. Then, there would not be the shortage of priests that lead to the bad priests being shipped off instead of kicked out.
