She laughed and finished eating before getting up and wrapping her arms around him and resting her head on him.

Nikolai got up and grabbed the Firefly DVD's. Can we start this before we have to go to the airport?"

Alexis smiled and nodded. "Absolutely," she said.

Nikolai leaped to the couch and turned it on. "Can't wait," he said, his boyish enthusiasm showing.

Alexis laughed and curled up on the couch with him after popping the first DVD in.

After the first DVD ended, Nikolai said, "Wow, we need lessons from Niska."

"What, about reputation?" Alexis laughed, adopting a thick Czech accent. "Or about torture?"

 

[bindingeagle]

"Take your pick," he laughed as she aped the accent. He looked at the clock. "Well, hate to say it but I think we're up against the clock here," he went and put on his best travel suit.

Alexis sighed and dressed in a skirt and blouse, and began doing the weapons. "Just to make sure," she said, smiling.

"Of course," he said, loading gear into the truck on a few different trips. "Ready to go to the briefing?"

"No," Alexis said, grinning.

 

[bindingeagle]

Nikolai began driving. "Me, neither, but we're stuck anyway." He drove onto the base and headed to the boss's office.

Alexis walked in. "File. Now."

The Director handed her the file. "Your contact has been briefed and will supply you."

"Thanks," she said dryly before leaving.

"Wow, he didn't give us a lecture today," said Nikolai, leaving and taking their bags to the loading area. "Wonder what that was all about?"

"He knows how much I hate Beijing," she explained.

 

[bindingeagle]

"There has to be a good reason behind that. Will it affect your combat readiness, and do I get to know what it is?"

 

[celestialdragon]

"No and no," she said firmly.

 

[bindingeagle]

"Okay, I guess I'll find out when we land," Nikolai said, opening a magazine.

Alexis curled up on the couch, her head in his lap, and fell asleep, still a bit exhausted from the night before.

It wasn't long before Nikolai fell asleep as well. He awoke when the pilot announced they were landing for their transfer flight in California.

Alexis woke up as well and she straightened up before getting off the plane and on to the transfer plane. "Ready?" she said.

"Ready," he said. The next plane was much smaller than the initial one, and their gear was loaded quickly and efficiently. Soon they were in the air again.

She rested her head against his shoulder, curled up next to him.

 

[bindingeagle]

The copilot met them halfway through the flight over the Pacific. He was holding a towel over his arm and offering them wine. Nikolai noticed a glint and tackled him, a derringer pistol clattering to the floor. "Now what the hell is this?" he snarled.

Alexis watched and she saw a flash of the copilot's belt. "I'd like to know the same thing!" she snapped. "Who are you, and what the fuck are you doing on my plane?!"
