Linda Holt stood staring at herself in the hotel bathroom mirror. Her black framed glasses lay discarded on the counter top, her usually messy red hair immaculately styled in a high bun the fly away whisps glued down with hairspray. Her normally pale freckled face layered with makeup not one spot showing though, her plump lips coated in a glossy red.

This is it she thinks to herself time to put on the final touches of her alter ego. Time to make Lin Huntsman a reality to her fans. Time to step out from behind her books and face the people who have made the life she lives closeted away in solitude writing for months on end a possibility.

A soft knock on the door makes her jump. "Miss Huntsman 15 minutes to the reading." Her assistant Bella calls out.

"Thank you Bella, I will be right there." Brushing her shaking fingers down her black dress Linda takes one more look at herself in the mirror before turning to leave.

It feels like she barely has time to gasp in a breath before she's standing behind the black curtain hanging in the conference room of the hotel. She can barely remember the walk to the elevator let alone the discussion with her PA on the way down. Her mind completely blank as her heart races with nervousness.

"Ladies, it is now my pleasure to introduce you to the reclusive yet New York times best seller of the last 3 years in a row Lin Huntsman." The annoucer yells the last part into the microphone over the roar of the crowd.

"Good luck." Bella whispers with a quick squeeze on Linda's arm.

Sucking in a sharp breath and pasting a wide but fake smile on her face Linda ducks between the curtains. Walking straight towards the stool set up before a high desk set up on the stage. Her eyes skimming over the blur of the crowd mentally congratulating herself for forgoing her glasses again.

"Good evening, dear readers. Tonight I have chosen to read you my favorite chapter from Night Shadow, then I will take some questions at the end."

Linda opens her mouth and reads the chapter about how Cat finds out her stalker and shadow is really her mysterious employer Mr Dunthworth. Getting so wrapped up in her own tale of strange love she forgets the crowd Infront of her, her mind gone to a far away place of pleasure and fear.

Finally the chapter ends to the whistles and applause of the crowd. Linda ducks her head a deep blush racing up her face.

Clearing her throat she tilts her head up " Ok, question time, who's first?"

Michael Hemsworth steps up to the microphone "Hello, Ms. Hol... Ms. Huntsman..." he says quietly, with a wide smile, and glaring eyes. He stops himself from revealing her true name, knowing how confused her so-called fans would be. Her name was the least he should know, he figures, after all the hours he's spent studying her and her works- collecting a copy of very edition of each of her books, both in print and audiobook format, and examining every word like an ant under an electron microscope. Today, he would confirm it.

"I just wanted to know," says the muscular but shy veterinarian in the same calm tone, holding his grin while his eyes following the curves of the young woman's frame, from her fiery red hair to her perfectly polished shoes, "Who was the inspiration for Mr. Dunthworth?"

He knows the answer, of course. He was the inspiration for the character. He had to be! Though this was the first time he'd ever seen or spoken the author, the name couldn't be a coincidence. And he knows Dunthworth's mind intimately- the obsession he felt over his sweet young employee, Cat, and his drive to win her over. He'd come to the conclusion long ago that all of the men she wrote about were inspired by some aspect of him. It didn't matter that they'd never met- he knew it to be true.

He caresses the edge of his leather jacket, waiting for her response.
