It's a sad, sad ting I 'ave to tell you....Guy was my best uncle. He was a good one, him, but as slow as a cement toboggan, you know?

I don't know Don Cherry but even without knowing the accuracy of the impression, the bit was hilarious.
Every Canuck knows who Don Cherry is, even if they've never watched a game of hockey in their life.
Here's some vintage Cherry for ya.
You guys are gonna claim Tom Green? Really? I'd be disowning him in a minute.
Well, I may just have a new Canuck hero.
Andrew Ferrence.
Hockey and environmental awareness together? Who would have thought?

Okay, that was cool. I love the jersey at the end. That was a great touch![]()

I had to go look up why the Canadiens are called "The Habs". It never made a lick of sense to me. Can't say that I'm much better off now that I've read the explanation.
Weird-ass Canucks![]()
You found that it's from "les habitants" or "the locals," right? I wonder if there's any connection with Habitant brand soups, which used to be a favorite imported product in the French Canadian community where I grew up.
Yup. Weird.
Is it really all that strange? The Yankees are often called the Bronx Bombers and it seems to me that most pro teams have nicknames that are generally used only locally. To my ear, Les Habitants is the rough equivalent of "Our Guys."
I find a lot of sports slang weird.
One Labatts and a poutine please. Extra gravy.
Done!
(Mind you, we drink Kokanee in this neck of the woods - the Kokanee glacier being just a hop, skip and a long fucking hike away)
Had a chance to try poutine for the first time when I was in Toronto earlier this year. I passed because I wanted to try it in Québec or Montréal first on the assumption that it would be more authentic there. I want my waiter/waitress to offer it up to me en français, s'il vous plaît.
Poutine is very much an eastern thing. (Frankly, it grosses me out to look at).
Out west, the delicacy is pot brownies.![]()
I could go for a plate of those. I'm guessing that the ordinary tourist might not be able to buy some at the local muffin shop, right?
