Can you submit both non-illustrated AND illustrated versions of the same story?

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but the Illustrated Works FAQs brought up a good point in that, while pictures are worth a thousand words, some readers do in fact prefer text-only stories.

I've almost completed another work and have the accompanying images to go with it, but I'd hate to turn off any potential readers who favor nothing but the written word. The FAQ also states that illustrated stories go straight to the 'Illustrated' category; I assume no matter the story's content.

Is submittal of the same story with and without images allowed, or do I have a decision to make? Thanks, for any help given.

That's a direct question to Laurel, I think. The site doesn't allow duplicated stories, but yours might be a special case - I've not seen this question asked before.

And yes, there's only one depository for Illustrated Stories - my guess is for technical reasons, larger files and such.

PM Laurel, I reckon.

Ah, okay. Thank you very much.

I don't know that there is an official FAQ or policy statement anywhere.

You can find many stories where duplicates are posted in Illustrated and in whichever category would be applicable without the illustrations. There are enough examples I've easily found that I assume it is an acceptable practice.

Ask HeyAll about this. Recently he has been publishing a lot of illustrated stories with success, but I don't know if they're based on older stories.

I recently posted an Illustrated version of "Can I Watch?" which is perhaps my biggest story, or at least my top 3, posted 10 years ago.

It's not a direct version though. I make clear that it's the "illustarted version" where it was changed to present tense, and the story was condensed down to become shorter. On my profile it has the chapter heading, where both stories are lumped together under the 'can i watch' heading.

Here for example, as I mentioned, it's the same story but changed tense and it's over a thousand words shorter. I note clearly at the top that it's the same story.

Come to think of it, I also did the same with "Quarantined with Mom" where it was the same story, but illustrated, condensed down.

I think that if you submitted a direct copy it would get rejected. That's my opinion. You can't have the same story twice, I don't think.

Even without Illustrated, if I remember correctly, I've seen people post the same story twice, but ONLY if it's a variation of some kind.

The same story can be posted in multiple categories if named slightly different. I have the same story in L/W and in Audio as an example.

Simply name the illustrated one, "My Story" and the text one, "My Story -Text" or something similar

As a side note, are you doing the illustrations there? I really like them! They’ve got a really nice, clean style.

Thanks! No i don't make anything, for that story, that was made by an illustrator who sells work and used a couple of mine. Name is listed at the top.

If I had any artistic talent, I might tackle an illustrated story, but I'm a stick person artist and that ain't art.
