I have female friends and am also involved with somone.
Sometimes it can be awkward especially if I have had a past history with a friend and see them somewhere.
Your thoughts please on the subject.

I know my closest male friend is just a friend because although he's my age, he's a shallow prick and only wants to bang 20 yr olds.

Thats not the situation here though. My friend is quite attractive and I'm not too bad in her opinion.

Yes, they can. I have several female friends. While I can appreciate that they are attractive women, in most of their cases it is simply something to know about them, not something that defines them. Yes, one of them I would gladly fuck, and she knows it, but it's a testament to our friendship that she still hangs out with me in spite of that! Lol. Seriously though, there's so many ways to relate to people, of course sexuality is going to play a role in some friendships, but it hardly is the defining feature of all of them.

The ladies I.have gotten to be friends with have always undsrstood me better than my guy friends. I have always been more comfortable opening up and telling them real stuff not.just tbe superficial stuff.

I don't understand how that part that I highlighted comes into the picture. Why would what other people you've dated in the past be more or less judgy than just people you simply know? Maybe I'm reading that wrong but I'd think the people who know you and your current partner would be the ones who would be awkward to run into with your gal pal.

Still, absolutely men and women can be friends. In fact I think it's a good thing because they can offer one another unique perspectives--men and women don't see things the same so now and then it's good to have a 'translator' available.

Do make sure that your partner knows this person and is as comfortable in her presence as you are. She should be friends with both of you even if she mostly hangs out with you.

Unless you actually do want to 'hit that' in which case you have to end the friendship of the relationship pretty much now.

Thanks to those who supplied a serious reply. After reevaluating some things I finally had to cut [name withheld] off.

Why not?

Most of my friends as it turns out are of the opposite sex, been that way since I graduated high school. I usually make my best effort to remain on good terms with any exes also. As for entering into a relationship with someone that might not want me to continue the friendship(s), I'm pretty clear up front about having female friends and also that I keep up communication with an ex (or exes). I'm happy to say that my best friend in the whole wide world happens to be female, she's attractive, has guys hit on her all the time and I've never hit on her even once. Certainly out of the norm, but we met like 6 years ago...so yeah, it can be done.

Yes. Some of my best friends are guys.
Platonic is possible when you're mature and intelligent enough to understand what true friendship means.

Most definitely; of course that means that they both want the same thing. Most relationships (friendships, dating, or marriages) fail when one person has different expectations than the other.

I only have ONE female friend the rest are male. I'm extremely good friends with my Decoy. He was there for me when I went through hell and I was there for him when he did. He's married and neither of us are interested in each other. My high school was prominently males so ya it was be friends with them or have almost no friends. Only one of them tried anything and it never happened again.

No. Only because one will always secretly want the other. Ladies your "guy" friends want to fuck you. No offense but why would a guy want to hang out with you otherwise? If we can't have you we want you and if we still can't have you we want you more. Sure we will talk shop and ask for advice but while we are asking we are mentally sawing your vaginas in two.

LOL..
I must be "the most desired creature on the planet" then... So, I'm guessing we need to reevaluate that theory, Hoss.. :D

In all seriousness, I happen to believe we can be friends.. Perhaps I'm naive..

I think so, yes. I have had male friends for as long as I can remember - and none of them ever made move on me. I am just the "one of the guys" plain Jane type of girl, though I have no idea why.
If one or two selected ones of them had made a move towards me I would not have opposed, but those were exceptions.

Thanks for that visual. Most my friends are guys and I really don't think most or hell even half of them think about fucking me.

Agreed.

I really don't know. The only male friends I have are on here and they all talk sex to me soooo... Who knows. Lol.

I think it depends on the level of friendship. Can I hang out with a guy and have light-hearted fun? Yes. Can I bare my heart and soul without feeling some connection? Unlikely. The connection is always in danger of translating into attraction or desire and that is complicated.

As a straight woman, my friendships with other women are always much deeper than friendships with men. With men, I tend to stick to lighter relationships hence making it harder to develop a more meaningful friendship. On the odd occasion where the friendship has somehow deepened with a man, feelings of attraction come into play on both sides which complicates the friendship.

So, in short, for me, I a can only maintain a superficial friendship with a man and probably will never have the depth of friendship that I have with a woman.
