Camp NaNoWriMo

Wheels are turning in my head. I have some research to do!

This will be an interesting challenge. After thinking about it, I decided to go for the 50,000 word novel. When Ellie and I wrote The Rhythm Method, we ended up with about 60,000 words. Obviously we shared writing duties, but that gave me hope that I can do this. As the story developed and grew, I no longer worried over how long it was going to be, and let the story flow. I'm hoping I can have the same experience with this project.

I settled on 10,000 as a goal for word count. And I know what I'll be working on. So I'm ready!

Only one bunk left in the Accidental Nudist Cabin! You know you want to. All the cool kids are doing it!

I'll take the last bunk, but nowhere near Swilly. I don't want to see his Yankee Pajamas.

Since my 2012 nano was assorted vices I will go with this.

And he talks in his sleep. "Lundqvist. Lundqvist."

I can hardly get my beauty rest.

First of all, it's a nudist cabin, so screw the pajamas, LC. Secondly, how the hell do you hear me when you keep on moaning his name too, pl? Of course, the meaning of yours is quite different than mine!

But what about the big #2 you have tattooed on your ass?

Henrik is dreamy. I'll give you that.

Done. I exceeded my goal of 10k with a total of 26,265 so I'm happy.

Congrats Lynn.

I flaked halfway through and went camping without technology for ten days.

Thanks. Between my not-so-fun ER visit and my laptop issues, I struggled. But I have some great friends who helped me through.

Okay, shoot my ass for this but...

What's getting y'all so excited about this camp NaNoWriMo?

I don't have an idea what happens in this...competition(?)

Anyone care to enlighten this idiot?

I'm not the best person to explain it, but NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, which is November, when people sign up to write 50K words towards a novel. Camp NaNoWriMo takes place in July and one other month during the year. It is somewhat similar but different. You can set various # word goals in July, towards a number of stories or novellas or a novel.

The NaNoWriMo org. puts together a number of tools and encouragements to help writers achieve their goals. It's a bit like a Facebook for writers overlayed with a bunch of cheer leading to support achieving the writing goals. Twelve people on Lit joined together into a cabin - a subgroup - to do some writing. The month is almost over and several cabin mates have already finished their goals, others are close, etc. some people in the cabin have done it before, for others like me it's the first time.

You should look it up and see if it interests you.

Since I can't PM, I'll ask it here.

Okay, so my question is:

Where does my 50k or so novel go after I complete it?

What do I get out of it? I mean to ask if I'd get the comments and ratings and votings like Lit or not.

You get nothing but the satisfaction of knowing you completed the challenge of writing 50,000 words in one month (there are a few offers from the site you can take advantage of, though).

You keep your novel to do whatever you want with it. No one at NaNo reads it.

No comments and ratings.

It's a fun challenge.
