camp for deprogramming gay teenager

ooooooooooooooh yeah just like my former friend said:

Insane , that is the word to describe it, and very common among fanatic christians.

(at least in some christian groups, and my former friend is among one of those groups.)

Parent's have a lot of power over their children. Its scary to think that a 16 year old (or younger) could be forced to attend a re-education camp. Or that parents would even consider subjecting their child to such an experience.

I hope that Zach comes through the experience with little damage. And I also hope that he and his family will find healing. I worry that his family will abandon him in two years time, preferring their personal beliefs over their love for their child.

Please don't flame me

Parent want the best for their kids, a really good friend of my brothers came out during the 80's. He always struck out with girls. He started a gay relationship with a ten years older man who treated him badly. It was very hard for his mom to watch. He got "bashed" too. You hear about it all the time that strait people hurt gay people.

I think just the physical danger gay people face every day makes a parent worry. In a perfect world......

I've heard of programs like this before. but mostly in a "Support Group" type setting. And Actaully a little while back Law and Order SVU, did a segment about such a group. "if we wish it away enough we (or my loved one) won't be gay"

But you know what they say ignorance is Bliss

I'm surprised they haven't made a reality TV show about this yet

I for one am glad to see such a camp. I can only imagine the wonderful life I missed by ending up gay and (wistful look) would have loved to attend such a camp.

Why oh why did my parents not send me to gay camp!

The way you said that makes it sound like a wonderfull place full of advice on how to integrate pink more; walk like a penguin and raw, hard homosexual sex.

Yeah, they should make a place like that..

With regards to the program, you can force the gayer out of the gayer, but you can never take the gay out of the gay.

What the fuck am I doing in the glbt area?

Oh, for the love of god! I am totally walking right out of here, right now, before curiosity gets the better of me..

it's really horrible what some parents will do to their children, fat camps and now this? No wonder we're all screwed up in some way and require the help of some pill that will make us somewhat normal, or maybe just managable. It's disguisting that parents would do that to a child. And what's worse is that they do it in the name of religion. *shudders* I don't think religion requires you to royally screw up your kid...or maybe i missed that part....

No, I think you got that right. Its the attitudes of others which have lost their sense of God - such as that father in Florida who beat his 3 year old son to death because he feared the child might grow up to be a sissy and gay.

To truly appreciate how far from God some 'religious' folk have drifted, take a look at the atttitudes of the killer's parents and grandmother.

Hahahaha

Well said Jamie... run with it... go woth the flow. :)

I heard something about this before and it's disgusting. DCF should take him away from his parents before they do anymore damage to him!

I just fucking love how the family of the murderer is blaming the wife. No, I don't think she's guiltless, but they appear to think it's all her fault, and it's not.

~licking my lips~ I would love to fuck your avatar after i am done with this cock........lol.........just kidding. Send me straight..........ack.......umm...send me to hell......... :rose:

Sigh......being a conservative I find it hard to defend some people's behavior on my side of the fence and frankly those who run this camp don't deserve it. Now if your young and struggling with issues nothing wrong with talking to a professional and then making your own choices. The attitude that being gay is something that can be "fixed" is something that makes little sense to me....People make their own choices and frankly that is what being a conservative means to me.....doing your own thing and as long as your not bothering other people (aka violating others rights) go ahead.

Now is being gay a mental problem.....I don't know to be honest and I am sure some of you are cursing me....but rescent the ideas that religion can fix things. Many pedos joined the priesthood hoping they would be cured......they weren't of coarse.

Not being a parent I can only say as a laymen that you should love your children and let them live their own lives. It is up to a parent whether their part of it when they become adults.

If you watch the Show Rescue Me a FDNY chief can't except his son being gay....and is ashamed. The son becomes a firefighter in a different and the two seldom talk....doesn't seem worth it.

Has anyone seen this kid's blog since all this mess happened?

I study the Ex-Gay movement, b/c I find it fascinating and it is a horrible thing to force people into these "camps". It destroys people and families and they should all be shut down.
Zach was so adament about his beliefs against Love In Action and other camps, his 180 in his recent blog makes me believe he was brainwashed... whether he apreciates the term or not. It's horrible he had to listen to one second of John Paulk's lies, but I support Zach and all the others going through these programs- I just hope they can lead a happy and satisfying life.

If anyone wants more info about the Ex-Gay movement (from the pov of a Gay Activist), you can e-mail me or read "Anything But Straight" which is an excillent book about Ex-Gays. Also, for a comical view of the camps, rent "But I'm a Cheerleader".

The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities has ordered the closing of what it calls two unlicensed personal care facilities run by a Christian group that claims to counsel gays to give up homosexuality.

The state inspected two facilities in Memphis on Aug. 19 and determined Love In Action International Inc. was providing housing, meals and personal care for mentally ill patients without a license, according to a subsequent letter to the organization from the Department of Mental Health.

The department gave Love In Action until Sept. 23 to cease operation of the facilities and apply for a state license.

I think the Tennessee Department of Mental Health needs to learn that homosexuality was taken off the national list of mental health problems in 1973 but if it gets these horrible camps closed, then more power to them!
