Just saw a post on the GB about weight being an issue in healthcare because you can't get good x-rays. I have had at least three doctors not treat me for the problem I went to them for because of my weight. They told me the problems I was having were because of my weight. The first time I had endometriosis and told the doctor but she ignored me. The second time the lab tests said I had hypothryroidism and the doc said I just needed to lose weight.

Have you guys ever felt like your healthcare was less than it should be due to a doctor's prejudice?

I hear you on that, there were plenty of times my doctor made me feel like I was nuts because he ignored what I was telling him. So I changed doctors. I had an aunt die because a doctor wouldn't listen to her, so I no longer just take what they say on full faith. Get a second opinion and if that doesn't work get a third. They are only human and don't know everything, but god some of them are so arrogant.

Most definitely ... the most common explanation I get frm doctors is: it's b/c you are obese (great ego boost there, huh?) and you are under stress. I've pretty much given up going to the doctors. Although I went last year and she told I should keep switching doctors till I find one that listens. Unfortunately, money prevents that. I did, however, go to one last week ... I wanted to bring him home with me. He made me feel safe. He listened to what I asked. He answered my questions. When I told him I was 'morbidly obese' he looked at me like I was nuts ... said I don't think you're morbidly obese ... numbers aside ... and he did offer help/support if I choose to make any changes. Anyway, I've written him a letter saying I appreciate his 'bedside' manner. We need more doctors like that...

*hipcheck bump* Just found this thread and I don't want it to die. Hope all you ladies are out there having a fabulous weekend. I had a birthday party this afternoon that I attended. Unfortunately, just family. But found out about a big party in a few weeks. I really need to get out more. Sucks when your friends are all married and staying home nights. Spent the evening mowing lawn.

Have a great night.

Hello to all the curvy ladies here. Have been absent for a while but hope to be back on regularly and talking to some of you soon. Hope you are all amazing and give me a holler sometime. thanks

NOT only is being overweight a problem...but LADIES(and even men) - please you need to be proactive in your healthcare. Doctors in general treat men diffently. I know this from personal experience with more than one doctor that my husband and I share. Men get more tests, more advanced tests and generally are simply taken more seriously.

Remember this when you go to a doctor - THE DOCTOR WORKS FOR YOU. You are paying a professional consultant (i.e. the doctor) to give you advice. You have the right to be treated with respect, dignity, and careful consideration. And you have the right to fire them.

The best way I have found to find a good doctor is once I establish ONE good one...I ask that good doctor to recommend me to someone when I need a different kind of doctor. So far it's working fairly well. Though if you are starting from scratch it is a little more difficult. GET recommendations from other people too.

wish you all the best.

I have to agree, my doctor know my feelings about some. When he wants to send me to a specialist I ask him whose the best and who he would recommend. I learned that trick from my mother when she had to go with me when I was having trouble with my foot.

GB do you think this new doctor that you went to last week will take you on as new patient. If so then I would suggest going to him if he makes you feel better and answers all your questions.
