i totally agree - I don't have kids but there were alot of pissed off people that hated that rule.....it was instituted cause people abused it and used up all their personal time (2wks per year) by the middle of february....yeah it's your time to use, but they just abused it and ruined it for everyone elseshadowdame said:Hell no! If my kids were sick I just called out and that was the end of that!
keiffers said:well I was in a support position so I can understand why the had to measure how long you took, but geez they need to chill out and understand that not everyone can do their business in :15 mins.....atleast they don't expect 48hrs notice to take personal time off (yeah even for people with kids they wanted 48hrs notice before you could take a personal day - tell your kids that they must give notice before getting sick)
the thing is though that there will always be people around to abuse the priviledges that they are given when they are hired. IT just blows me away that I got laid off yet people who jerked the system and did all kinds of bad sh*t are still there.....they punished the decent people and reward the idiots (just cause some girl blew the boss int he parking lot LOL)LittleLady815 said:true, very true.... and vacation time was if you didn't have the job done, well then forget about taking your vacation until it was completed, which sucked. Thanks goodness, I don't work there anymore.
MagicaPractica said:So why don't they just subcontract the position and hire you through an agency so that you aren't really their employee? That's how I worked for three years for the company I was with. They would occasionally switch subcontract companies and tell all of us to go fill out the paperwork to work through the new company. Just GREAT for employee morale.
MagicaPractica said:Yeah, but I hate to jump around. I figure to give it one or two school years then decide based on whether things have improved or not.

well the govt still controls how long you can work at that location....gotta love labor laws. I used to work for a contractor years ago but they've changed the rules since then. My company doesn't really use subcontractors and the temp positions are mostly used in the sales group....although they show up in other areas...its fun sometimes cause my paperwork is geared towards sales people and I have to ignore certain parts cause it doesn't apply to me LOLMagicaPractica said:So why don't they just subcontract the position and hire you through an agency so that you aren't really their employee? Gypsybyrd said:then those people should be 'punished' not everybody else ... but then I believe in personal responsibility. There are ways for companies to deal with disciplinary issues without affecting EVERYBODY
MagicaPractica said:Yes but I fail to see how the employee benefits other than you get to keep your job. The real employees have WAY better benefits. I was able to buy health insurance through my subcontract company but I paid all of it so it was about 300 a month. You can work up to having time off but there's no vacation time other than the standard holidays. It is better than some jobs but not as good as being a real employee of the company.
shadowdame said:Of course there are ways, but it's easier to make new rules across the board then deal with those that ruin it all for everyone else.
Gypsybyrd said:The main benefit I could see would be higher pay ... in a trade for no benefits ... and there is something to be said for having a job ... even without benefits
Gypsybyrd said:Very true ... like the 'no inter-office relationship' rules ... I got into a debate with a friend about that not too long ago ...
but think about it, without rules, a job would be a madhouse cause no one would show up when they're supposed to, they'd just expect a check. that would be nice and all but that's not very good for the business.....shadowdame said:Of course there are ways, but it's easier to make new rules across the board then deal with those that ruin it all for everyone else.

so true - I refused to date anyone I meet at work, cause if anything goes bad you still have to face that person at work.....or see their name somewhere on business paperwork.....there are alot of very attractive women where I work, but I leave it at looking only lolshadowdame said:Inter-office relationship are just bad period! think about it, rules are meant to be broken, so there will always be sex in the conference rooms, people constantly showing up late, etc - it just depends on if they get caught or not

its not that they aren't enforced, they're just not enforced for everyone...I know of quite a number of people who got their position not on merit, but rather on other things......one of them suddenly showed up with a boob job and a manager position.....we often wonder how many bjs she gave before she moved forwardshadowdame said:all too true, there should be rules, but without them being enforced what do they matter? that's why people get away with breaking them.
