California may end travel ban to states with anti-LGBTQ laws

California bans state-funded travel to nearly half of the country after a surge of anti-LGBTQ legislation in mostly Republican-led states.

“Last year, California agreed to spend $20 million to help women in other states travel to California for abortions in the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. ‘We could help someone fly or travel to California, but when they had to go back to Texas or Florida or whatever any of those states, we actually couldn’t legitimately spend money to send them home,’ Atkins said. ‘It starts to get complicated.”

Their virtue signaling got the better of them because it wasn't well conceived in the first place.

Democrats always have to find out the hard way when their ideas run up against the brick wall of reality.

It looks like the Democrats recognize the problem and are working on it. Is that a problem for you?

From the art:

Wednesday, state Senate leader Toni Atkins announced legislation that would end the ban and replace it with an advertising campaign in those states that promotes acceptance and inclusion for the LGBTQ community. The bill would set up a fund to pay for the campaign, which would accept private donations and state funding — if any is available.

“I think polarization is not working,” said Atkins, who is a lesbian. “We need to adjust our strategy. We know what we need to do, but we need to be able to be there to do it.”

Democrats never recognize shit until it's slapped onto their dinner plate. 800,000 unemployed, 4.6 million on food stamps, over a half a trillion in debt = $14,600 per citizen, and now they want to spend another half a trillion on reparations.

Who’s this nefarious “they” you’re referring to? While there are some people calling for large scale cash reparations there are others who have a different take on things.

I try to avoid piling all republicans in with the insurrectionists but maybe every single one of you are exactly the same as the ones who went to the capital murder on their minds, no?

Yes, the Dems typically attract the ones who care too much, while the Pubs attract the Looking Out For Number One crowd.

It’s great that they finally figured out how stupid the bans are. 😂

I don't support anti-LGBTQ laws at all but I agree that the travel bans are unnecessary virtue-signaling and don't really solve the issue (other than create needless restrictions.)

Oh? You don’t believed in voting with your dollar?

It worked pretty well until so many republican representatives decided politicians should get between doctors and patients. Now so many republican led states have gone authoritarian that it’s hard to effectively do business while avoiding them.

Seeing how those Republican positions are so far to the right of the majority of voters, avoiding republican/authoritarian strongholds may not be so tough after the 2024 elections. ;)

It “worked pretty well?” Lol. No, it didn’t work well at all. None of the targeted states changed their laws in response to CA’s silly effort to meddle in their affairs. In fact the list of states that restrict “gender affirming care” in children and prohibit men from using women’s bathrooms grew after the ban was first put in place. All it succeeded in doing was making it difficult and expensive for CA to engage in government activities and sports with half the country. That’s why state Senator Atkins is proposing legislation that would bring CA closer to the realm of reality.

I was referring to "Democrats" in CA, including its Communist Governor.

Yeah, the democrats underestimated the will of Republican leaders to restrict citizens freedoms.

I didn’t say they had broken any laws, just that they are restricting citizens rights in a way that is only popular within a certain portion of their base.
What laws have they passed that restrict a citizen's rights?

What laws have Republicans passed that restrict the "rights" of citizens. Name the law.

You’re a weasel aren’t you?

You can’t even hold a real conversation. I did not say what laws anyone has enacted.

What game are you playing? Are you pretending that women’s rights to privacy in their medical care have not changed since Dobbs?

Are you pretending that GOP politicians are not limiting access to abortion in a way that is supported by a minority of the voting public?

You're the weasel. you refuse to answer the question and explain the alleged "right." The SCOTUS has already rightly ruled that a right to abortion is not in the Constitution. So, they sent the issue back down to the states as required by the 10th Amendment to determine if there is an alleged "right' to abortion in any of the states. The Amendment say:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people."

So, that means the people of each state get to decide if such a "right" exists or not in their states. Now, do you get it you dumb shit? Abortion isn't a right unless the people of a given state, through their democratic process, says it is.

Now what laws have Republicans passed that restrict the alleged "rights" of citizens?

Exactly why I have so much of a problem with the current crop of Republicans (Remember, I was a California Republican once myself.) This is the first generation since the early 1900s where women in the US have fewer rights than the previous generation. And these movement to ban books, take away birth control, enact draconian anti-marijuana laws, draconian anti-abortion laws- guess what- it isn't the Democrats doing any of these things.

Ironic, isnt it, that the Republicans are the ones always carping on about "protecting freedoms." By that logic, if I stick a gun to your face, demand your wallet and car keys, am I "protecting" your wallet and car keys?

I don’t need to play by your twisted little rules of forum engagement - you don’t get to frame my answers. Have you stopped beating your wife yet? 🤣

Thanks for outlining the Republican talking points for 2024 ✅

It’s quite a spin they’re playing, but it really shows how it’s local constituents who need to free themselves of these GOP pricks.

For the record, in many states with republican majorities, women no longer have the right to receive medical care from a doctor without government oversight.

Democrats respect women’s right to privacy and freedom of medical care when republicans do not. ✅

More of your unending bullshit.

Point of FACT: Women today have no fewer "rights" than they had yesterday, or 5 years ago. If the "Right to an abortion" had been an actual "Right" then I'd say yes, but losing what WASN'T a Constitutional Right is not the same thing as losing what IS a Constitutional Right. So your bullshit is just bullshit masquerading as a cow patty.

Speaking of which; one of the "rights" which women HAVE lost is their right under Title 9. So congratulations, the Left has fucked women completely while claiming that conservatives are the bad guys who need to be eliminated.

The funniest part are all those women who believe it.
