You'll notice that you can be a judge and not a citizen, if you read the article. Is it any different to have a noncitizen in the jury? Do you really think you're going to get juries stacked with noncitizens? Lawyers still get to refuse jury members if they have a cause, so if they think a non-citizen will be biased, they can remove them anyway. I fail to see what problems this could cause except for racists. I thought we wanted immigrants to integrate and become American? Now you're saying you want them barred from something quintessentially American?

In the greater San Diego area there are 3,100,000 people, nobody should have to serve more than twice in their lifetime. I've been called about twelve times for Superior Court, and twice for Federal District Court. Why, because I'm a registered voter. Now they call licensed drivers as well. Everyone else is pretty much exempt. Other than breaking new ground in political correctness, a high Democrat priority, there is no need to impanel foreigners.

If non-Americans can be attorneys and judges in America and that never bothered you, what's wrong with jurors? Are you afraid that a Canadian has the wrong values with it comes to car stereo theft?

So, now they want to call legal resident aliens who have California driver's licenses. Maybe there should be some kind of special registration of citizens, just for jury duty, complete with more government employees who go door to door, demand to see identification papers and take names. Jury dodging could become the new Litcon martyrdom, similar to draft dodgers who fled the Canada. I can see protest rallies where people burn their voter registration cards, while chanting "Hell no!, we won't go."

You are acting as of jury duty is some kind of plum which should be reserved for loyal citizens, which runs contrary to practical experience. People see jury duty as an onerous burden. Compelling resident aliens to shoulder this burden will lower their quality of life, which should please you to no end.
