I've been having massive problems with my internet connection for the past few days, and after many calls with NTL (my ISP) technical support, I was getting absolutely nowhere.
The connection failed on me again about an hour ago, so I called them again. Finally, somebody in senior management twigged what the problem was. Somebody has actually stolen my modem's MAC address (its electronic address/ID), and is and has been using my connection and knocking me off. The guy said whoever it is has got hold of a hooky modem from somewhere and randomly chosen an in-use MAC address, from somewhere, but who knows where. BASTARD!!!!!
I'll be getting a new modem, but I have to wait until Monday.
Apparently the guy has been using it constantly and when he starts massive downloads, that's when I get knocked off the connection. NTL need me to keep hold of the modem for a while, so that they can monitor him and hopefully find where the fuck he is.
So, I have to bear with it for the time being.
It's a known issue, apparently. So, why the fuck did nobody at NTL twig that was the problem, until tonight?
Anyway, I'm gonna use my connection, while I can, but if I'm not around much over the weekend, this is why.
A seriously pissed off Lou
