C-section (canine related)

Has anyone ever had to c-section a dog? By a vet I mean! If so, could your dog still nurse? I can't ask my vet until Tues, damn holidays, and I keep finding conflicting reports on the net.

from what I understand it varies from breed to breed in the canine family. Unfortunatly I don not know if huskies are the post c-section nurseing breed or not. But maybe that info might be able to redefine your searh paremaeters a little bit.

Thanks. I kept reading that large breed, purebred dogs, could generally nurse. I have Alaskan Huskies, technically a man-made breed. They would be considered a large-breed dog though.

We raised beagles, and several had to have c/sections. We got the pups started on bottles for the first 48 hours, and then the mom's took over with the nursing. Just enough time for the initial pain to wear down a wee bit.

Opinions such as that have been what has caused my profession so much grief. 4, 6 or 8, 10, 12 or 22. Each doesn't pull less depending on the number. Any of the above #'s is being "nicer to the dog" as that's what they live to do. I'd have thought that we've spoken enough about this for you to understand that. And you know my love for my dogs. Yes. I meant man made lately as opposed to "registered" breeds of refinement.

i am sorry I was thinking that the dogs pulling worked along the same lines as a pulleys system worked that the wieght pulled was divided evenly between each point/dog/

thus i though 100 pounds by 4 dogs would be 25 pounds a piece
you increase the points/dogs same wight 100 pounds by 8 dogs 13 1/2 pounds a piece

thus the more dogs the nicer it would be cause they wouldn't even think they are pulling anything.

No infection, no long term health struggle? And I was afraid that if the initial bonding didn't take place that there could be problems down the raod. Any difference between this litter and others who were at a teat from birth? Thank-you.

It looks right on paper, with a man-made object. However, you are dealing with a thinking, breathing animal. This translates into "I pull this hard, all the time. If I only have to move 5 lbs...look out, it'll fly." Weight divided means nothing to a creature who wants to pull and run fast. 4 dogs cannot run faster than 22 dogs. A dog can only run so fast. Nor will 22 dogs pull less hard than 4. But each dog will pull a certain amount of weight, regardless of the # of dogs, because that is what is in the heads of the dog to do. Your weight mean nothing behind these dogs. (And that's what I tease you about.) With waxed runners, the designs of sled these days, etc, one dog could fly my ass around a trail; and never know there was anything behind him.

We just went through a C section...

And Hysterectomy with a miniture Schnauser and she has nursed her puppies through to solid food.

The scarring was minor but we were very carefull for the first two weeks to make sure it was covered while she was feeding them.

She and the puppies are doing great so it was well worth it to us.
