But no one will want to be a doctor! Record applications to medical schools in 2013

Gee, you can have all the doctors in the world working in the US, but they will do you no good if they take that insurance policy you bought through Obamacare. Or Medicaid. Or Medicare. When all they will except is cash, you're up shit creek. Just saying.

It'll never happen. I suppose it's remotely possible that the time may come when the government prevents them from doing so but I don't forsee that happening either. Regardless that will never happen.

That must explain the huge flow of EU and Canadian citizens here to use our elite health care system.

Obamacare hasn't actually started yet. Let's see what happens when it has. Will thousands of citizens of nations who have Single Payer or similar systems continue to come here for health care and pay American providers?

In countries with millions of people do you really care what thousands do? The reality as has been shown several tiems over is that more people go to Canada for cheap drugs than come to America for expensive surgery just because of how numbers work.

The number of applicants for medical school is a reflection of what college student see as the future of medicine. Already we know that college students as a whole believe that Obamacare is wonderful they got to stay on their parents insurance although most of them already did that by being in college.

I think it would be more accurate to say that no one's going to want to be a doctor for financial reasons. This might end up being a good thing in the sense that perhaps medicine while now track people that see it more as a public service than a source of enrichment financially.

Hard to say with the fallout will be. It will take a few years.

Nursing is very well compensated these days. My mom used to be what would these days be considered a physicians assistant... and she did it for $7.50 per hour. At the time that was not even twice what minimum wage was.

It varies by state these days EMTs I think make pretty good money. When my brother was in med school he looked into being an EMT as a means of gaining experience while going to school. It paid four dollars an hour.

So it is possible if you completely destroy the ability for doctors to make any money in medicine you may very well get more dedicated doctors. But the doctors we have now who I assume now that they have finally paid off their $200,000 in student loans, might well decide on a clinic over the border somewhere on a Caribbean island. I would. My brother when he was in medical school was during the whole Hilarycare debacle. He thought it was a fine and wonderful idea.

I tried to explain in the cost of malpractice insurance in that every dollar that he made at least 50 cents off it would go for various taxes.. He didn't leave any of that until of course he became a practicing physician. as an OB specializing in high-risk cases, his malpractice insurance is probably his largest operating expense, despite never having had a claim.

Funny how anybody with any people in their family who practice medicine know you're full of shit.

Why the fuck would they come to a half ass'ed bullshit system they can stay home and get more for less??

You're up too late, you took me seriously about everyone with UHC coming here to get bent over and butt fucked dry in the pocket book. I know box, ima, vette and the rest of the "Omg the world is ending, stalin and hitler and giant fucking robots Oh' my!!" crew are full of shit.

That's not to say the ACA isn't one of the greatest scams of all fucking time....because it is. Granted Obama spit on it first which really piss's the crony fucks on the right wing off since they would have rather kept us in their back pockets, but man we are still getting FUCKED. Like the chump at the dealership who just coughed up 500 million dollars for an 84' civic with a bad motor and 4 maypop's, FUCKED.

So to the RW, you don't have the fucking stones to say "Let them all fucking die in the streets." and that's fine...how fucking humane of you. But the consequence is we have to take care of people's health and people aren't responsible enough to do it on their own. Enter socialized medicine, it's the cheapest and most effective method by every quantifiable measure out there. Now take some of that personal responsibility you just can't shut the fuck up about and fucking deal with it. That's the price of living in a 1st world civilized nation where we don't just let the sick and injured die in the street.

Left wing....shut the fuck up about funding, you are the most well funded worthless lazy cock suckers in the history of the human race. We should be able to rebuild every facility with state of the art gear every fucking year and STILL have enough left over to cover everyone's health care. If blindly throwing money at problems was effective we should be blowing the rest of the planet's tit's right the fuck off in pretty much EVERYTHING. Get a fucking clue....

What huge flow? Got any numbers? And by that metric, Mexico's HC system must be better than the US' because busloads of people leave San Diego every day to go over the border for health care.

I have a family friend who is a general surgeon who is getting out of medicine and is loudly blaming Obamacare for his decision.

...of course, he's 67 years old and malpractice insurance in prohibitively expensive for surgeons over 65 but that had nothing...nooooooothing...to do with his decision.

Actually I was mostly responding to Box, I just felt the need to quote you to keep the appropriate context.

I agree with what you've been saying here for the most part.

No need to go to Canada for drugs, just order them on line. ;)

This thread has taught me a lot about incorrect assumptions that various people have. I feel like I should not have read this thread, because I didn't need that information, and I am adult, meaning that my brain was fully milinated. Meaning that I actively lost information to replace with the fact that there are people dumb enough to think that Canadians come to the US for healthcare. I really needed that space for Pokemon stats or tax law or boob orgasm techniques. There are a million things more useful...
