Baghdad - Britain will help the Iraqi government dispose of what's left of deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's chemical weapons, still stored in two bunkers in the north of Baghdad, the British embassy in Baghdad announced on Monday. The British Defence Ministry will start training Iraqi technical and medical workers this year, an embassy statement said. The teams will work to safely destroy remnants of munitions and chemical warfare agents left over from Saddam's regime. He was overthrown in 2003 following an American-led invasion. Saddam stored the chemical weapons near population centres so that he could access them quickly, despite the danger to his civilian population. Most of Iraq's chemical weapons were destroyed by military forces in 1991 during the first Gulf War or by UN inspectors after the fighting. The inspections halted just before the invasion. Iraq is a party to the UN Chemical Weapons Convention and must get rid of the remaining material, according to terms of the pact. The head of the Iraqi National Authority, Mohammed Al Sharaa, said the remnants "represent a great challenge to the Iraqi experts to safely dispose". He called the agreement with British authorities "a good opportunity for Iraqi experts to benefit from the well-known expertise of UK experts". British Ambassador to Iraq Simon Collis said Britain is glad to assist in what he called "this difficult and dangerous task".

That's a coded message to say that the weapons had 'Made in the UK' stamped all over them. We sold them to Saddam Hussein.

Every time we see a story similar to this one, they were "old" WMDs and "old" WMDs don't count...

;) ;)

Besides, they no longer care since the Great Obama swept in and "won" the war.

My decoder ring just comes up, "Hail Satan full of mirth and race..."

It's official double-naught spy issue.

08:37 GMT, August 1, 2012 Scientists from the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) are to provide training which will support the Iraqi Government's efforts to dispose of remnants of the chemical weapons amassed during Saddam Hussein's regime.

Under an agreement signed in Baghdad, experts from the MOD's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) will provide training to Iraqi personnel which will help them to safely dispose of partially destroyed chemical munitions and agents, along with other contaminated materials.

Following the First Gulf War, most of Iraq's chemical munitions were destroyed under the supervision of UN inspectors and the partially destroyed contents of these two sealed bunkers are all that remain of those legacy weapons.

The ones NATO and the UN alliance destroyed and stored away 2 decades ago?

This is your victory?

Is this a ":kbate:?"

Are you asking 'they?'

No, it is a nice laugh. We have managed to suborn the Brits into being the ones to destroy the bunker we knew all about because we put the disabled weapons in it after the 1991 war.

I quoted you because you were (for once) correct. They were OLD weapons that didn't count.

true. i saw some ordnance of german origin around al-amarah in april 2003.
Well, I was talking about the WMD we sold Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war, right after the we took them off our State Sponsors of Terrorism list. Apparently invading another country will get you removed from the list.

Because once the war started, he could not breach the seals and get to them.

He was a regular dolt in that respect.

Perhaps because they were 'disabled remnants?

Would you fire inoperable ammunition at the advancing US Army and Marines, who were just waiting for the ChemBomb to go off so they could begin a killing orgy?

No, but I might fire them at my fleeing soldiers to put the rest of them back into the line, or re-gas the Kurds, or better yet, repeat Desert Storm and lob them at those damned dirty Jews to arouse regional support...

Yeah, that didn't work out so well for them. Almost though. Kuwait was fully prepared to declare war on Israel if they attacked Iraq for targeting Tel Aviv and Haifa with scuds.
