Hey, I've been lurking for a bit and wanted to ask some questions about whips and specifically bullwhips.

Namely I want to know some specifics about them. What are different types, what disguishes them, and where does one learn to use them?

You need not worry I don't have anyone I am planning to try this out on. I'm mainly interested in learning to use one to know it and see what I think of them. Conceivably using one on someone is far far down the line.

Thanks,

you don't happen to be in the ny metro area do you?
This friday at the club called paddles in nyc there's a whip demo for the domsubfriends group. if you are in the area pm me for more info.

Those are the informational links they supplied along with the e-mail of the event, but i think bullwhip.org is the most excellent link.

as for how to use one... uh, pull back, push foward crack.
I have an 8ft 12plait kangaroo hide bullwhip, i love it, but it will bite you if you're not smart. I've never used it on a person (i'm totally a bottom) but i can do performance bullwhip, multiple cracks, cracking two whips at the same time, target cracking... It's about the roll...
The way a bullwhip cracks is that there's a curl or roll in the whip and when the roll reaches the end and the last piece snaps out it "cracks". That sound is actually the sound barrier breaking.

I purchased and learned how to use mine from the same guy. at least twice a year i meet up with him for some more lessons or different cracks. It was mostly luck that i came upon him and that chance.

Good luck

It is the most fun toy to play with. It is also be one of the more dangerous. A bullwhip can slice through the flesh of your "victim" or inflict a nasty wound on the wielder if you're not careful.

I’m sure the sites noted above will give you all the info you need.

Diffrent types of whips,

signal whip- short whip, cracker plaited into thong, used by mushers and indoor play.

snake whip- varring lengths, replacable fall and cracker, used for indoor play.

stock whip- used mostly for routines, standard is a 20"stock, varris on the length of the thong.

bullwhip- nylon inexpensive and gaining wide acceptance.

bullwhip-cowhide midgrade used indoors as well as for work

bullwhip-kangaroo, from the 4plait to the 48plait it is your choice of what length and what plait that you have made for yourself.

handle lengths as well as the weight of these whips are a personal choice, there as as many diffrent ones as there are people that use them. Every length from a 6"handle and a 3' whip, to a 20" handle 12' whip. The plaits vary from 4 plait single color to 48 multiple color, as well as names plaited in them.

The way people use these whips in play also varries, you can see people use whips to directly strike someone straight on, you can also see someone use the whip in a drag type motion. The bigger whips are generally used in a wrapping scene.

To learn to use a whip there are lots of dungeons that are offering singletail nights. Once you get the basics down you will develop your own style and routine, from there practice, practice, practice.

There are a number of diffrent chapters of WhipEnthusiasts, look on yahoo groups as well as the net they are out there. Also do a search on singletail.
