Spike's chip doesn't work anymore because he has his soul back. If someone wanted to get technical it would still work but by the same standards it wouldn't. The chip was configured for how Spike's brain worked as a soulless creature, my guess is that having his soul back means his brain works different and now whatever was programmed onto the chip no longer works because the mind and intent has changed.

Next couple episodes will see if you're right or not. You'll be suprised.

Having a soul has nothing to do with it. The Initiative was working from a purely scientific base. They considered demons and the like as merely other species of animal, nothjng mystical about them.

I hasn't worked since season six, on Buffy at least.
