As I write I am using my sisters laptop because my desktop has all but spontaneously combusted. It had severe trojans as well as worms. I took it in a few months ago, had the viruses and whatnot all cleared out as well as the infected files.

Of course, not all was gone and I began having problems. Eventually I got the Blue Screen of Death(BSOD). I took it in and had it more thouroughly checked out and it worked well for awhile until the viruses took over completely. From that point I had it completely wiped a few weeks ago.

I started fresh and only reinstalled a few things so far. Unfortunately, just tonight in the middle of RPing on here, it froze, flashed a virus, and shut down. I've attempted restarting and got the BSOD. I tried to restart with all safe modes, last good configuration, non-reboot, and normally. Everytime I get the BSOD. The Error numbers, in Hexidecimal, are as follows:
0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x86649113, 0xF7A577B0, 0xF7A54AC)

Anyone got some tips or help? I'm thinking maybe its a hardware issue, is there any way to tell which hardware it might be?

Is Lunix much like windows or is it confusing as hell like a Mac? Also, would it work well for gaming because my father games constantly on the desktop? And finally, would it affect programs and software we have that we would need to reinstall?

A computer only does what you tell it, Windows or any PC based software isn't Skynet, so what did you download? Or, what did you try to crack or serial? Bare minimum, just get the free version of Ad-Aware by Lavasoft, it will stop things like that before it executes.

I haven't downloaded anything. Like I said, my father uses the computer and he is rather dumb when it comes to it. I've already got AVG anti-virus, Rouge Remover, and I think Ant-Malware Bytes. All programs given to me by the place I took it to be fixed.

Well Im still lookin for help if anyone still wants to put in some thought.

I tried to boot up just using my Windows XP cd and it still wouldn't boot up. So from there I tried to use the recovery console but it didn't help very much. I got to choosing which HD to repair and entering the admin password. From there, nothing happened.

After doing that I don't get the BSOD anymore simply because it wont load that far. It gets to the boot screen then it goes to the load screen for about a second and restarts the booting process. Now I cant get into the recovery console with the boot cd either. Any ideas?

chester:

i am not a tech, i just work with PCs a lot. it doesn't sound like a hardware issue, though: it definitely sounds like something's up, probably malware. i have a few questions:

1. first things first, what version of windows are you using, and is it up to date on patches?

2. who are the other users, and do all users need to have admin rights? locking down install privileges might be all you really need to prevent a recurrence.

my personal suggestion is to invest in: 1) another HD, do a clean install of your OS & licensed software, and 2) norton ghost, so you can take an image of your drive. some really ugly malware make this simply more time efficient.

No mention of a compuer-illiterate father there.

Hammer to nail.

There is no better maintenance than preventative.
