... it's dangerous to think too much, so the best thing is to channel your energy into something that's easiest to think about but which does you no harm. For most of us sex fits the bill nicely.
Character: Bruce Robertson
Book: Filth
Author: Irvine Welsh

Thoughts?

Bruce Springsteen Says:

I get up in the evening
and I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
Man I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help

You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

Message keeps getting clearer
radio's on and I'm moving 'round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face
Man I ain't getting nowhere
I'm just living in a dump like this
There's something happening somewhere
baby I just know that there is

You can't start a fire
you can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

You sit around getting older
there's a joke here somewhere and it's on me
I'll shake this world off my shoulders
come on baby this laugh's on me

Stay on the streets of this town
and they'll be carving you up alright
They say you gotta stay hungry
hey baby I'm just about starving tonight
I'm dying for some action
I'm sick of sitting 'round here trying to write this book
I need a love reaction
come on now baby gimme just one look

You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying over a broken heart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Hey baby

Think

If that quote is true, then we should all just live a little. Think for a while, think deeply about something, anything, it doesn't even have to be non-sexual...see how 'dangerous' your thoughts can be.

Find out where your mind can take you, you may be surprised.

Robertson is referring more to the thoughts of sex specifically and less to the physical act. He occupies much of his day and his view of women (and men, in how they approach women) with sexual thoughts. Simple thoughts, about how to get laid, who to fuck, and how to play them. His manipulations run deep and, in the end, he deceives himself, as his eczema worsens and his reality comes crashing down around him.

Not a book to consider reading if you're searching for ponderous meanings buried in a novel. Ex: One of the best scenes is when Robertson hires a young whore to get fucked by his Porn supplier's Collie. After going to the barn and getting mud all over his brand new pants (he cant do laundry, long story), the COllie gets wound up by a hand job then attacks Robertson instead of the young whore, Claire.

Claire laughs as the Collie cums on Roberton's pants. Robertson calls teh dog queer and the owner takes offense, then consoles the poor dog. Claire remains amused and doesnt return to the city with Robertson but rather stays on the farm to earn more money, stomping on Robertson's feelings.

This after his trip to Amsterdam didnt go as well as planned. But at least he can set up his freind for a jail sentence, fuck his wife, and use her to fuck over the friend.

Did I mention the tapeworm?
