Browser wars

We use Mozilla Firefox ánd IE. Have heard of Opera but why should I use Opera? We use two browsers for the simple reason that there are sites that both M and I frequent (like our online banking site) and using one browser proved to give problems with the singning in and password procedure (it would either allow me or M but not both - not even after each other changing log-in and passwords).

Why do you promote Opera, Quoll (and SW too)?

mg: i prefer opera b/c it's faster and uses fewer system resources than firefox. i also prefer the interface.

Okay, so I should look into it? I will...

I will report back, sir :D

Don't want to install anything just like that because I don't know how and if it will interfere with our other browsers. M's not here at the moment, will check it out over the weekend.

How are you doing SW?

mg, i run all 3 on my work laptop and home desktop, and there's no problems. you strike me as a pretty savvy user so i doubt you'll make any rookie mistakes.

doing OK. work sucks. how are you? :>

You would be surprised ;)

Work sucks eh? Last week I heard that more people actualy fantasize or daydream about another job than they do about another partner. Go figure.

I'm doing fine, thank you. Starting up my own business and a holiday to France just 4 weeks ahead of me (us), so things could be worse.

i wish you good luck in your new endeavor and a relaxing time in france. will you be visiting paris or somewhere else?

Why Opera.
It's fast.
It's secure.
It is a dedicated browser that is designed to do the job it does and nothing else, it is not integrated into the system like ie.
They take their security very seriously, on the few occasions someone has pointed out a possible security flaw, they fix it, usually within two weeks. No denying there is a flaw, no blaming other software, no waiting six months before admitting there is a flaw and then another six before offering a patch.

They listen to their users, if there is a site that wont run on Opera (very rare now) they want to know and they fix it.

They are constantly improving and adding features suggested by their users.
Most features touted as new in the other browsers, I have been using for years.

I used to use Opera but ran into trouble on an XP machine with multiple user accounts, sometimes the profiles would get corrupted and all the bookmarks would be lost. There were work-arounds available but Firefox creates the appropriate files in the correct folders automatically. This was a few years ago...maybe those bugs have been worked out.

We 'did' Paris last December and it was great. No, we are heading South this time (again): the Provence/VAR region. Near St. Tropez. Have you ever been to France?

I'm with everybody on the Opera altho I still use Firefox on my x64 machine cause Opera for some reason ran slower than Firefox... never did figure that one out.

But as for IE, if that was my only choice I would probably sell all my comps and move to the Outback....

I've been using Opera for about 2 years now. I just think that they make things a lot easier than the others I have tried(IE, Firefox, Netscape), and they have a lot of nice features that they have been using for awhile, but once another browser gets them, they call them new.

I use IE once in a blue moon, but for the most part, I only use Opera.
